Hi everyone,

So I'm in a bit of a pickle. Basically, I graduated from undergrad in May 2014 with a subpar GPA (3.4 cum, 3.0 science) and just finished up a Masters program with a 3.7 overall. I am planning to apply for admission to both MD (try my luck) and DO schools for this cycle, but I have a situation I'm not sure what to do about.

Basically, the reason why my undergraduate GPA was so low was due to basically 3 courses that I received Ds/Fs in - Organic Chemistry I, Genetics, and Anatomy and Physiology. However, these courses were not offered through my Masters program. Also, I have yet to take Biochemistry which is a requirement for quite a few schools I am interested in applying.

I've already retaken OChem I and taken OChem II and secured As in both courses and labs. My question is in regards to Genetics and Anatomy Physiology/Biochemistry. My plan was to retake Genetics and take Biochemistry this summer (so I would be able to send schools my grades come mid Aug since many require both courses), however now I'm realizing that if I have a C in Anatomy and Physiology and an F in Anatomy Lab, retaking that might be more beneficial this summer, and holding off on taking Biochemistry till the Fall semester.

Anatomy and Physiology isn't required by any schools however I did receive an F in the lab. Does anyone have any advice as to how I should go about deciding what to take this summer and what to take in the Fall? I will definitely be taking Genetics this summer but should I pair that with Anatomy or Biochemistry? (Yes I know the solution should've been to find a program that allowed me to retake these courses, unfortunately for whatever unintelligent reason, I did not end up doing this.)

Thanks for your feedback! Wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope this is okay!

This is not a weird or different situation, always always always retake ANYTHING lower than a C if you can. Always.

So should I be focused on taking Genetics + Anatomy and Physiology this summer (since those are the ones I have a D and F in, respectively) and hold off on taking Biochemistry until the Fall, even though it's required for admission at quite a few schools. Is it okay if I do not have Biochemistry done prior to submitting my application?

I would hold off on Biochemistry. As long as you take it before matriculation you'll be fine. Take genetics and anatomy/phys.

Edit: put biochem as a "planned" course on your apps
