Weirdest Question Asked During an Interview

At LUCOM interview, one interviewer asked me:
In Bible, Paul said ' .....', Could you explain to me what does it mean?
I was looking at her and thought 'Really?'

Well, consider the source. I put serious thought into whether I would go there if it were the only option available to me. I keep going back and forth between no way in heck, and absolutely, if there were simply no other path open to me. No disrespect to the quality of the school or its grads, but I would not fit in there at all.

I never applied there, but if it were my only chance I would rather wait another year to get in elsewhere.
 
"If a patient came to you asking for a third eye to be implanted in the middle of their forehead, what would you tell them?" I was not asked this question, but a group of interviewees were asked this question this year.

Wow. That is awesome. I would love that question.

I'd need to understand what they hoped to accomplish with their third eye, so that I could know how to go about helping them. It's a pretty strange request, so I would want to know that I was dealing with a rational person. I wouldn't go straight to a psych consult, unless they demonstrated other evidence of delusion, etc.

But, assuming that they seemed mentally sound, it would be time to talk logistics. Namely, that what they are asking for isn't possible at this time, but that I would be happy to continue to support them to attain their goals in achievable ways. So, if they were hoping to improve their eyesight, we could talk about assistive visual technologies they could consider. If they were after the cosmetic effect, I could refer them to a makeup artist/special effects person for a very realistic prosthetic third eye. If they just wanted to REALLY freak out their parents, spend a crapton of money, and ensure a future of relative unemployability, I could suggest that they go to art college or a culinary school.

Nope, just reporting on the actual experience of dozens of friends who were taken advantage of by one or the other of those institutions. Several bright people I know were talked into going deep into student loan debt in order to end up as sandwich artists and short order cooks. There are several for-profit school chains that prey on kids that don't realize that they could go to real colleges for less money and come out with meaningful degrees in their areas of interest. Poor guidance counselling and the easy availability of student loans / pell grants combined with families where no one has ever gone to college have parents feeling real proud to see their kids go to these places.

Everything people hate about Caribbean schools? It happens on shore, and to people with an even lower chance of ever being able to recoup the cost of their education in the field for which they have trained.

I've asked a similar question, but the source quote was never from the Bible. The quote I use is very nebulous, and so has no correct answer. I just like to see what people can come up with. The LUCOM interviewer could have been asking about something really nebulous that Paul said, but LUCOM being LUCOM, I worry that she was instead fishing for the "correct" Biblical interpretation, "correct" meaning the far right wing of Southern Baptist theology.

I was asked why my UG GPA and my LORs were so drastically different.... Because I had a low UG cGPA, and stellar LORs...

Seriously? I doubt the med school professors are quoting the Bible during lectures. Now I'm so curious!

Still considering applying there. VA is beautiful and their strict code of conduct probably cuts down on the number of intoxicated undergrads on campus during the weekend. :laugh:

If only a school were nothing but the professors and lectures. There is a culture to contend with, and most of life there would happen outside the lecture hall.

And Bible quotes don't scare me. The people who do the quoting often do, though.

Me: Board Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist
Interviewer: Board Certified Pathologist that was really excited to have a lab person to interview.
Questions in order:
"What laboratory tests would you order to confirm multiple myeloma?"
"What would you expect a CBC to look like for a patient with myelodysplastic syndrome?"
"What pathology clinical sites are you interested in?"
"Have you looked into the wide range of fellowships pathology has to offer?"
"How long have you played the guitar?"

Not my easiest, but definitely my favorite interview.

Me: "Uhh... my name is ___."
Interviewer: "Oh, I'm sorry. Is there any reason I would have thought your name was (stereotypical name)?"
Me thinking This can't be serious. Is she trying to mess with me?
Me: "I have no clue." :lame:
Interviewer : "OK (stereotypical name), I'm going to ask you a series of questions that I have to ask everyone. It shouldn't take too long."

I walked back into the common area extremely confused.

Ummm... Sounds like it might be slightly inappropriate? Maybe need to report the interviewer to the dean..

It was my very first interview and people had talked about interviewers being "conversational". I didn't want to make a big deal about it so I just moved on.

Later I realized how unprofessional that interviewer was.

Before anyone asks, I won't reveal the school name.

What if it had been a quote from the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius that you were asked to explain? Would that have elicited the same response from you?
 
This is outright racist. You should report this tot he Admissions dean. S/he won't say "wow, what a whiny crybaby". The Dean will go tot he interviewer and tell her to cool it, or pull her off of admissions entirely.

This is the only way the process can be cleaned up. Unless you want her to keep on insulting persons of color.

Weirdest question I was asked when I was a medical school applicant - "If you were stuck on an island alone and you could have three things, what would they be?

Weirdest question a medical school applicant asked me during an interview - "I just broke up with my girlfriend. What should I do?"
