Just wondering if anyone else has interviewed here and then later received a letter from the PD saying that you are a good candidate and he would be extremely pleased if you matched there? Does everyone who interviews here get a similar letter or only a select few? I know you're not supposed to put much stock in these letters or base your rank list on them, but I'm just trying to see if it might mean anything at all.

:welcome:

I think it's great that you got a reassuring letter from the PD. In the end, the decision about rank order should come down to what you want

1. Program- its strengths, its fit to your preferences in a program (for me- research opportunity, more academics)
2. Location (for me, NW, NE or Texas if I have to, but city >>>> small town)
3. Resident team

I did not apply to or interview at WVU so I don't know whether the PD is habitually obsequious.

I DO know, though, that such a letter should hold no sway over you in terms of ranking.

🙂

Agree with the above.

Just for your information - I got a letter from a PD who explicitly said during the orientation that he / she will not send out anything post-interview since he / she would prefer not to influence our decision in any way.

Not sure why I got the letter in this scenario, but I do have a letter in my hand that is from the same person who told me not to expect anything. Absolutely have no clue if it is a good thing or a bad thing though...but I don't think I am going to rank them higher / lower just because I have a letter.

Interviewed there, got a letter with similar content.
