I am under the impression an unpaid internship is not necessarily considered a volunteer experience. Should I still talk about my unpaid internship to fulfill the contents of this prompt? Any information would be helpful, TYIA

I would think that in the case of the essay, talking about this experience should he fine, but you should contact advisors for the school to be sure.
