I have posted this on facebook, but I looked all around and I decided on a studio apartment at the Helix.
It is very expensive but they actually dropped their prices quite substantially making it much more viable of an option. I liked it because it is right next to school less driving and more time to focus on school.
I've been to visit western 3 times now and I don't agree its overpriced at all. You get what you pay for. They have everything a student needs and more and its THE closest place to campus. So can they do that? Yea. Real estate mantra is its all about location. With that being said, I'm not living there, I never really even considered it so I'm not being defensive. Its just a peeve when people complain about it being overpriced when they don't have much to base it on. The truth is california is expensive, its pretty comparable. Just my .02. There's a reason people still live there. Its just about what is worth it to the individual.

Thanks! Do I have to be a member of the group to post on the discussion board? I'm still learning the whole "facebook" thing
Nope, just a member of facebook...can't wait to meet everyone 😀
I'm living in the southern part of Chino Hills, so maybe a 15min commute? I've been taking the bus the past 2 years now so wasn't too thrilled about driving to school (not to mention parking fees!!!!) but public transportation isn't all that great compared to here.
I would recommend doing a test drive the morning or two before classes start (or plan accordingly) the north part of the 71 gets pretty packed due to changing from freeway to traffic lights. The first part of your semester may not be so bad because Cal Poly doesnt start till end of September which will increase the traffic then. Its all about timing though. I could leave at 6:45 and be at cal poly by 7:05 no traffic but if I left at 7-7:15 I wouldn't get there till almost 8.
Just a comment on the Helix.... A bunch of my classmates live there and love it! However there is another complex right beside the helix that is starting to rent to students. (It use to be a senior residence) Because these complexes are now open to students they are running all kinds of deals and specials and are just as close to the campus...hence why the helix had to lower their prices, so they could compete with the market.
