Western Waitlist/On Hold

I was just curious, is there anyone else out there on a waitlist for western?
First i was put on hold till March. Then when March came around, I received another letter saying I was put on hold until July 14.

The letters said that On Hold doesn't mean that I have been rejected, but it also means that they can't guarantee they'll grant me an interview either.

I guess I'm just curious if anyone else is in this position. I had a friend who was on hold till March then rejected when march finally came around.

I have personally accepted that they probably won't take me for this year, but this being on hold just drives me crazy. I would rather just know if they'll take me or not, and i'm okay if they don't take me, but it's just the waiting that bugs me.

anyway, is there anyone else who is in this situation?
Should I even bother to keep hope that I might get in this year?

Are you on hold for Western after having an interview or without the interview? If you haven't had the interview yet, sorry to break it to you, but I would just start reapplying to schools for the 2007 admissions.

I interviewed for Western in March (the last interview) and was put on hold. I'm already doubting my chances of getting in and am in the process of reapplying.

After the interview you can get an "Accept", "Alternate", "Hold" or "Nonaccept". After they take the accept people, if there is room, they will take people off the "Alternate" list. They said last year that out of ~150 alternates, they took about ~60 off the waitlist. This means that they did not even consider the "Hold" list for the people that have already interviewed. Yah..it sucks. I don't know why they just don't reject us.

hi. i'm always reading the western u. posts cuz i'm anxiously awaiting any news about the waiting list. i am an alternate (had my interview in february). my stats...

majored in biology, option in physiology, minored in chem (just graduated may 2006, but of course i was still an undergrad when i applied last year)
3.42 science gpa and 3.55 cumulative gpa
2 years of research experience
1 year of hospital pharmacy volunteering
membership in 2 clubs for a short period
biology honors program
i believe i had two very strong lors and one so-so
i think my personal statements could have been better (it was not creative like others i read, it was very straightforward)

so the stuff above gave me an interview.
i thought i had an awesome interview (i was very talkative and even made them laugh), but i didn't get accepted. i know another person with about the same stats and she got in. so i'm not sure what i did wrong, but they're unpredictable.

well, i hope this answers anything you were wondering about or put things into perspective. good luck in applying!! :-D if i don't get in by august (final status notice), then i'll be reapplying. :-/

Don't loose your hope if you are on alternate list. They just called me last week to offer me a seat even I did not turned my transcripts to them yet. BTW, I already declined the offer so there is one seat available for you!

Thats crazy....

I was just at western u last week. I tasked to teh head of studnet services i belive. And he was all ike, you shouldnt even worry about getting in. Your a strong applicant, just dont screw up teh interview...balhh blahh blahhhh...

and im like, are you sure b/c i suckk!! (not in those exact words...but you get the idea) Anyway ....my stats suck comapred to yours.


Undergrad @ Cal poly. 3.45 gpa overall. (3.5-3.6) w/ repeated coursework) 3.5-3.69 sci GPA. biotech degree 2007. minor in chem. busniess coursework. One year pahrmacy clerk exp. also started 2nd clerkship in last two months @ the same time. treas of one club. founder of pre-pharm thingy, humanitarian/leadership work. NO REASERCH!! (I think that's gonna kill me!)
one solid rec from pharmacist. one o-chem lor, and final lor form eng prof (I dunno about that one)

but yeah, like you said they are kida random on who they accept. Maybe they still dont know what they are doing b/c they are kinda new. The pharm I work with didnt get in when he applied. Freaking 3.7pa, 3.9 math sci, 5 yeras tech exp. And he applied to Worcrestor liek 1 week b-4 the deadline and got in there insted...

any way.....I hope you get in this year. Hpefully I'll see you there in fall 07. wouldn't that be Ideal??

Hey Tom, thanks for your news 🙂 it gives me some hope. i'll be sure to have my cell with me at all times. but, are we suppose to turn in our latest transcripts? I don't remember them asking that from the alternates...

and hey whoatasneem, i think you have a really good chance of getting an interview with your stats, but like the other person said, don't screw up your interview. and perhaps turning in your apps early will give you an advantage even tho adcomm says it doesn't. i turned in my apps the week before they were due and i can't help but wonder if only i turned it in earlier. and yeah, maybe we will see each other there, since it is one of my top choices and i won't give up. that would be cool. 😀

I didn't get a phone call, but I was automatically sent an acceptance letter with additional forms to submit, if I plan to accep the offer. I will probably turn down the spot by not submitting the required information to hold my seat.
