Hi everyone. Some representatives from western university and USC came to my school for a pre-pharm meeting. They told me that if I did bad in a course, they recommend me retaking it because they will take the higher grade in calculating my grade (instead of averaging it together like Pharmcas). Can anyone tell me if this is really true? My gpa is really low (3.0) and I would like to retake some science classes I received C's in. However, I did all my prerequisites and received my B.S. at a UC, but now I can't afford to go to a UC postbac or UC extension program. So, I will be retaking them at a community college.

I'm not sure about Western, but its true for USC. They don't even see the lower bad grade unless you mention it (according to the admissions advisor). When you do the supplementals, you can only enter one grade, and of course its the higher one. Retaking those courses will definitely boost your gpa, at least for the schools that just take the higher grade. Good luck!

Thanks for your information! Congrats for getting into Pharmacy school =)
