this waiting is killing me.
I graduated this past december with BS in chemistry (biochemistry) with 3.0 GPA.I didnt expect anything good in the beginning anyways because of my GPA, but was hoping to get at least one interview with my research,ECs,and shadowing hours. my DAT wasnt stellar but it was about average 19/19/21 (AA/TS/PAT)-but low RC (16) and bio (17).

so AADSAS shows that my application was send on July 2nd and i took my SECOND DAT on Aug, 4th.
I have received rejections letters from nova, azdoh, nyu, case, and temple, but havent heard ANYTHING from other schools, not even rejection letters (which I expect). I wonder if Im missing anything in the application process. I called some schools and they only said I should just wait.
It would be good if I at least get rejection letters so that I can think about other things to do. just waiting, not knowing what's going on makes me feel super depressed.

So, since december(graduation) I didnt do anything but just studying for the DAT that Im planning on taking for the 3rd time in May. I am definitely thinking about doing postbac or one year masters program.

My concern is that I really dont want to have a gap year so I want to reapply to dental schools this summer. would this be wasting of money? any good master/postbac programs to recommend? should I even take DAT again for the 3rd time? I am so lost

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but most schools are done with the interviews and soon will be sending out rejection letters. So start preparing for next year.
What was your highest RC?
What is your science GPA?

A complete break down of both attempts of your DAT would help.

Hey,

you are not alone. I got rejected by 3, and the class was full by 2. So total, I lost 5 schools. :'( Until now, I haven't got anything just like you. Only some updates letter from the school, but not really anything. I totally hate it too because I can't even find a full-time job thinking if I get in, I can't just leave and have a bad standing. I feel you in any way.

However, they said that the decision will be ongoing until may, somtimes reaches summer. Plus, the next cycle starts June 3 (if I am not mistaken), so def, you have time. I personally still study for my DAT. Just in case I don't get in anywhere, I can kick in ryt away when AADSAS cycle is up...

May the good news come to us soon.... 🙂

if you do awesome on the DAT in may...then i don't think it would be a waste to apply again this coming year. maybe you can take some additional classes? it's probably too late to take anything, but maybe something during summer so you can at least show that there are different things on your application (new DAT, additional class <even if its in progress>)

if you can't change your DAT score and can't take any classes...then yeah, almost seems a waste to apply this coming year with nothing new on your application.

good luck!

How are you a biochem major and then bomb biology and reading comprehension!? I don't think that helped. You have good scores, but judging from low bio and low RC, you need more consistency. Sure, you have time to get in to schools, but don't kid yourself. Start studying for the DAT again and try to raise all of your scores to 19+. And the higher, the better.

Do not take the DAT this may if your going to do a 1 year post-bacc. Redo your DAT AFTER your done with all your post-bacc stuff because of the experation date on the DAT test.

I would strongly suggest you not apply this summer, spend Summer2010, Fall2010, and Spring2010 doing post-bacc courses and rocking them (try to 4.0 everything) Try to take 4-6 credits in the summer, 12-15 in fall and 12-15 spring. Thats about 25-35 credits of post-bacc. Then you can take your DAT for the 3rd time around May2011, and apply that same summer (summer2011). If you do this, it will greatly increase your chances of getting in, it will show them that your new application has improved my a mile when compared to your older application

Good luck

If you want to reapply this summer for class of 2015, you don't have much options other than doing much better on your DAT (to make up for your GPA, I would say at least 22+ and nothing below 19). Also if you didn't apply to enough schools, I would recommend you to increase the numbers of schools you have applied to (spend lots of time researching for the schools which would accept you)

Good luck!

I am kinda in the same situation as yours and I have decided to do a post bacc and retake DAT for the 3rd time. what state do u live in? let me know if you find a post bac that we could still apply for 2010-2011

The problem is ... your GPA is low and your DAT isn't high either. Although the AA is okay (19) ... The bio score and RC score are often really important to some schools.

Have you figured out why you are scoring low in the Bio section? Is it because you aren't studying enough? Not enough time? Try to figure out what's causing you to do poorly. Have you tried taking practice tests?

Apply to Post-bac or masters asap.

Study like hell and get a 24+ on the DAT (hell get 30s), every section, apply on day one of the upcoming cycle with your current GPA. Needless to say, every other aspect of your application should be flawless.

If this gets you in, great!

If you don't get in , then its due to low GPA. Which if, you are in a GPA raising program , is not as bad as doing nothing since you can update the schools with your new GPA at the latest.

I say apply and get in a masters or a post-bac for THIS year, cause otherwise it could be ANOTHER year of waiting to get your GPA up.

Then again you might get in this cycle, although the chances are very very very slim. 🙂
