What are First Aid's deficiencies? and how did you guys supplement those deficiencies? Is there a good combination with the least amount of books including First Aid that covers all the subjects thoroughly and efficiently? Thanks guys.

-IMO, FA lacked in the GI section. Rapid review is a great supplemental source, but I found it almost necessary for GI Path as well as physio.
-FA also lacks in Neuroanatomy pictures (Supplement with HY Neuro only for the images)
-For most other topics I would say that FA + USMLEWorld is more than enough

FA doesn't explain much. It is sort of like an outline for stuff you should already know.

If there is something you don't quite get, FA is probably not the place to get the explanation.

Anyone else have input on the best combination and with the least amount of books to supplement first aids weaknesses? As a 2nd year your advice would be much appreciated. I know this topic has prob been done but I know things have changed with first aid and other books and I think this would be very helpful for current 2nd years. Thanks.

Right now I'm thinking of using first aid , brs physiology, brs path. Do these cover all the bases? Hopefully this thread leads to an updated consensus on an efficient and comprehensive set of books. Thanks again.

I personally didn't think BRS Physio was necessary but it's useful is probably dependent on one's comfort level with physio. I would use RR path instead of brs path. I would also have an anatomy book and HY Neuro for reference

FA + Rapid Review + UW. In hindsight I would just wikipedia any word/disease that wasn't explicitly defined in FA. Missed a few because I knew the buzzword term but not what it meant.

definitely not anatomy but everything else, pretty much.

DDD, to answer your question nearly everyone who has taken Step 1 which I have spoken to (~13 ppl) have told me that FA + HY Neuro + Micro made ridiculously simple + RR Path is the way to go for a 99%ile score.

Personally, I will be going with FA + RR path and making sure to do 100% of UW, NBME and Kaplan Qbanks. I think I will gain more by doing the questions than by reading the extra books.

it used to be heme but they addressed that in the 2010edition, if you are using FA + UW and RR i wouldnt worry about weak spots because UW and RR will supplement it, some say FA is not enough for anatomy but it definitely was for my exam but again everyone gets a different form

just use it for the brain images and sections, FA and RR are enough for everything else
