Hey, I am posting this for my girlfriend, she's not as much of an SDN nerd like me. She is applying this year, and I will be next year.

Anyway, just wondering how she looked...3.4 Overall, 3.1 or 3.2 science, 29O MCAT, llots of volunteering/service related stuff, lots o' shadowing, and a CNA type job at a home for mentally/physically ill elderly persons.

Anyway, the one thing that really worries me is the science GPA.

As far as DO, we are looking at: MSUCOM (we are instate), CCOM, PCOM, NYCOM, UMDNJ-COM, UNECOM, AZCOM, maybe Western-COMP.

I don't know if you know anything about MD schools, but for them we are looking at MSUCHM, Wayne, UofM (what the heck), UIC, Rosalind Franklin, Loyola, Rush, UMDNJ, NY Medical College, SUNY-Downstate, Drexel....I can't think of anymore, but thats ok....mainly just looking for help with the DO stuff.

Her science GPA is weak for both MD and DO schools. Her MCAT is good but if I were her I would want it a little higher to compensate for the GPA's. However, if she feels that she can't raise it leave it alone.

What is the GPA trend like? Did it get better each year or was it consistent? I think thats the biggest question for her.

Her chances at DO schools are greater than MD schools, but she has a shot at MD programs as well.

There was a definite drop in GPA when she went from CC to University. Part of that was because she found it hard to focus because I was going to be moving out of town. Anyway, it's been steadily increasing since then, though I think a retake of some of her early sciences might help.

She'll get into a DO program most likely. Who knows about MD.

read the FAQ in the forum about what is included in the science GPA. DO schools calculate differently for science GPA and for repeated courses.

her 29MCAT should help offset the 3.1 science GPA. A lot of people in this forum with similar stats are matriculating to a DO school this fall. She should apply to all of the schools listed.

This is the wrong forum to discuss MD schools.

Her stats are very close to mine; I got into PCOM and LECOM. I was offered interviews elsewhere, but PCOM was my top choice, so I withdrew my other applications. I applied to a few MD schools in my homestate (Ohio) and I got interview offers from 2. I ended up declining, again because I was accepted at PCOM. Tell her to submit her materials ASAP. If she wants any other info I'd be happy to help. PM me, or email.
