Overall GPA: 3.31
Science GPA: 2.808
Non science GPA: 3.6+

DAT: AA=19, PAT=19, Total Sci=19

The reason my science GPA is low (long story-short) is because I ended up failing a science course almost 2 years ago because I had fallen sick towards the end of the semester. I re-took it and ended up with a B.

Since that major hit in that science class, I have brought my grades up and ended up with A's and B's in all my remaining science courses. The courses I got B's in were 2-3 points shy of A's (I know a B is a B). I will be doing a masters at Rush to prove to dental schools that I'm ready and have definitely matured.

What are my chances of getting in considering I will do well in my master program. Which school(s) would you recommend best fits my stats?

Thanks.

Ah man if it wasn't for that science GPA I'd say you would definitely land some interviews. If you do well in a masters program and apply broadly I would say that you can land some private school / state school interviews...I'd really try to 4.0 that masters though.

How many science credits do you have? What is your BCP? Have you considered a post bacc?

If getting that science GPA up to a 3.0 would take more than a year then yeah I would do the masters, but otherwise a post bacc might be better...depends on how many science credits you took.

SDN's responses would be more helpful if you provided a list of schools that you constructed on your own using the ADEA guide or Doc. Toothache's documents so that we could help tweak your list.

Some starters: Tufts, Temple, BU, NYU, Roseman, Lecom

I have actually considered the following dental schools: LECOM, Midwestern IL, Tufts, Kentucky, Temple, BU, NYU. The Rush master program is a 1-year program with 3 quarter semesters, so dental schools will see my first quarter of grades. If they think they are good, then I might have a chance otherwise I may have to wait til next year to apply again.

Is there any other schools anyone else can suggest based on my numbers. My BCP GPA is around the same (~2.80ish); I have taken 53+ credit hours of science courses (not including math, and anatomy & physiology because it was under kinesiology at our university).

I don't think a post-bacc will help with this many science credit hours. Any other suggestions on where to apply?? Please provide feedback.

thanks.
