What are my chances of getting into an MOT program?

Hi Everyone,
I just found this forum today and I wanted to take the chance to ask for your opinion on this subject. This is my second time applying to grad school and I am freaking! I only applied to one school last year (TWU-Dallas) and I was rejected, obviously.
I have already applied to TWU-Dallas again and am in the process of completing my application to UNM. These are really the only two schools that I would like to attend, but I am sure that I will apply to others as well. I am wondering, compared to those who have gained entrance into MOT programs, how do I compare?

I have recently completed my undergrad in Psyc with a 3.95. This is on my last 61 hours. I have a 3.81 on the prereqs due to a B in A&P I. I am primarily concerned with my volunteer hours, as I only have 45 so far (in two different settings). I know that one of my recommendation letters was not exemplary, only "good". I don't know what I will do if I don't get in this time around and it is absolutely making me neurotic. Any input and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I don't know that much about UNM specifically but generally speaking your stats look very good. It kind of freaks me out that you were rejected with that high of a GPA. Did you apply late in the cycle? If you are finished with all other aspects of your application, just continue to work on your volunteer hours and update them in like a month after you have accumulated a bit more.

No, I didn't apply late. Almost immediately after it opened, actually. lol. I only applied to TWU, which look at the last 60 hours. I did not do well at the school I was at before, so once they factored those in to get the last 60, my GPA of a 4.0 at the time dropped to a 3.5. They said the cut off was around 3.7, so I didn't even land an interview. Okay, well maybe I will have a better chance this time. 🙂 Thank you for your response!

I'm just curious what your last 61 hours means? How many classes is that for you? (I just wary of making claims of having X GPA when you're not considering all of your grades, regardless of what schools use in making their decisions.)

Also - what sort of undergrad did you attend? This is relevant.

Did you take the GRE? If you took it and didn''t do well, don't send your scores, unless they're required.

Lizzo, when I say my last 61 hours, I mean the last 2 years in upper-level courses since I attended cc first.

I have attended 4 schools. Two community colleges and two universities.

1st school- comm coll- 3.0 - attended only one semester
2nd school- comm coll- 3.95 - attended two years, completed my AA
3rd school- university- 3.0 - went 1 year and transferred
4th school-university- 3.951 - completed BA, which consisted of the last 60 hrs of upper-level classes.

Calculate all of these together and I have a 3.621, but why would that matter if all of the schools I am applying to only go off of the last 50-60? Some I saw do 90, but none that I chose.

I don't really understand what you mean when you ask "what sort of undergrad did you attend". Can you clarify? I earned a BA in Psychology from UT Arlington, here in Texas (if that is what you are asking).

veggieswirl, no I did not take the GRE. None of the programs I am applying to require it. 😀
