Hi everyone, I’d love some advice on my chances of getting into NYU or Johns Hopkins for medical school and suggestions for other schools I should consider. Here’s a bit about my background:

I didn’t decide I wanted to pursue medicine until my junior year of undergrad. Before that, I wasn’t focused on my GPA, which was around a 3.02. Since making the decision to go to med school, I’ve worked hard to bring my GPA up to a 3.65, showing a strong upward trend.

I’m aiming to score between 524–528 on the MCAT, which I plan to take this upcoming summer.

Here are the other aspects of my application:
- Clinical experience: Over 2,000 hours working as a Patient Care Technician (PCT)
- Shadowing: 164 hours across four different specialties
- Research: 2+ years in a lab with over 1,000 hours and 2 publications
- Volunteering: 500+ hours, including 400–1,000 hours spent creating websites/apps for small businesses
- Tutoring: 400+ hours
- Leadership: Served on my school’s Dean Committee, President of a few clubs, started a volunteer club, served as a senator & committee chair on my schools student government etc

I’ll graduate this spring and plan to apply during the 2025–2026 application cycle.

I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions on schools to consider, as well as tips on strengthening my application further.

Thank you in advance!

I'll be frank with you. It's not productive to give advice or a school list without knowing your MCAT score. You might aim for a score of 524-528, but the likelihood that you end up with a score that high is slim. A GPA of 3.65 will do you no favors if you want to attend the crème de la crème of medical schools, so you will already be at a disadvantage for top institutions. Like all other applicants, the likelihood of matriculating at JHU or NYU is slim at best.
