Hey Guys,

I posted a "What are my chances" thread a while ago but I didn't have my MCAT scores then and now I finally got my scores today (fairly disappointed too)! 😱

But here are my stats: 3.93 cGPA, 28S (11/7/10), 300+ hours of volunteering at a hospital, TA, exec on a couple clubs, 2+ years of research (no pubs though), did many many science workshops and demonstrations for kids and during frosh week.

Do I have a shot at any MD school this cycle? I am planning on applying to Wayne, Chicago, Oakland, GW, Penn State, Georgetown, and SUNY :scared:

Thanks for the input

FF

Also, I have completed the entire application but didn't have the courage to submit it because i feared my MCAT scores...so should I submit it? or wait until I do a re-write in September?

your mcat score will keep you out of Northwestern, but your GPA and ECs can make up for a few points with more reasonable schools. and schools will see your old score no matter when you submit, so just send it in now. the earlier the better

I would say that you need to apply to several more schools if you want a good shot at getting an acceptance. Chicago would be a big reach with your MCAT, GW and Georgtown both get 12,000+ applicants each year, and Wayne and SUNY have fairly strong IS biases. Look for some private schools that have a lower median MCAT.

thanks! how much of a negative impact would a low MCAT have? do you think its enough for low tier schools??

thanks ! sorry if this seems like a dumb question but what sort of low-tier private school do you have in mind? i thought oakland and wayne were the low tier schools!

this is just going to lower my chances: But I am a Canadian applicant!

maybe I'll add NYMC and Kentucky

While lower tier can be a misnomer (there isn't really any low-tier US allopathic schools), I would look into Albany, Creighton, Drexel, Hofstra, Rosalind Franklin, Saint Louis, and Wake Forest. I personally would just cough up the money and but the MSAR for this year. Then look for schools with lower MCAT averages. If they are private, they won't have an in-state bias, and will be more likely to accept you.

thanks for the advice! I'll look into private schools from MSAR

I checked but most of them do not accept Canadian applicants! My best bet is to increase that VR score to 9-10 by September! thanks for your help!
