Hello Everyone!

I am currently a Biology major at George Mason Univ. I just started my sophomore year, and I was just wondering what my chances are to get into Dental School.

About Me:

Sophomore
GPA- 3.4
SciGPA - 3.5

Total Credit Hours Taken = 37

I have finished GenChem with a 4.0 gpa. Also, I have taken Genetics(C+), Cell Biology(A), Microbiology(B), Bio-statistics(B) and Immunology(A) so far.
I have however received a C in two of my classes (Genetics and Psychology). I do plan on taking Genetics again, to improve my gpa.
After finishing my Spring semester, I will have taken 50 credits. So considering I am half-way through my BS degree, how are my chances of getting accepted into a dental school (Say I score an above-average DAT score)?

I have also shadowed a few dentists for about 45hrs worth of shadowing. Before starting college at Mason, I was in India, and was enrolled in the #1 dental school (Manipal College of Dental Sciences). I studied there for about 4 months. But, due to family reasons, I had to move to the US.
Will this experience in dental school help me in any way? Or will it be of disadvantage?

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks folks!

I think you should take upper division biology like histology or A&P instead of retaking genetics because it would look bad if you can't get an A the second time.

You sound like you're on an ok track, and a retake isn't always worth the time and effort it may cost you if you don't get an A next time around. Your numbers aren't bad just try to do better/keep it up and shadow more.

Its hard to chance you right now since its still early. Just focus on getting great grades, shadowing, and volunteering. Then kill the DAT and you'll be set.

Without any extracurricular activities your chance is zero. Work on them.
