Hello! I'm currently a senior premed student considering reapplying to medical schools. I applied this cycle, but haven't had much luck and one of the reasons could be because of my low MCAT score (501). I retook the MCAT in January and improved so I'd appreciate any input on my chances of getting into MD or DO schools for this next cycle as well as suggestions for which schools I should apply to!

Here are my stats and extracurriculars:

Major: Health Science Studies
Minor: Biology

cGPA: 3.9
sGPA: 4.0

January MCAT Total: 507
Chem/Phys: 127, CARS: 126, Bio/Biochem: 127, Psych/Soc: 127

-Over 500 hours of shadowing and scribing with a pediatrician
-Over 100 hours of volunteering in the NICU and Mother and Baby
-Volunteered through AMSA for Afterschool Mentoring Program with kids and volunteered at a senior living center
-Research experience through an individual research topics class (we did a poster presentation but I do not have any publications)

I'm also a Texas Resident so I know that will help me a bit as well.

Any thoughts on chances, school suggestions, how else I can improve my application etc. are all welcome! I was also considering applying to the Master in Medical Science program at LECOM-Bradenton so if anyone has any thoughts on the program and whether I should apply to it or not, I'd appreciate it as well!

Thanks!! 🙂

You should be fine with your new MCAT score and high GPA. Keep building your ECs, polish your essays, and apply early.

No need to enroll in a med-masters program. They are for GPA repair. Gl.

You should receive interviews at your Texas schools with your new MCAT of 507. Try some of the newer MD schools such as NOVA MD, Seton Hall, California University, Quinnipiac and Oakland Beaumont.
