Hi everyone,

Retook the DAT. Need some feedback as to what my chances are assuming if I were to apply June 1st. I know its too late in the cycle right now even though I have some active applications open.

Here is a breakdown and summary of 2nd attempt:

AA: 19
GC: 21
OC: 18
Reading: 18
Math: 18
Biology: 19
PAT: 17

First attempt was:

AA: 17
GC: 18
OC: 19
Reading: 16
Math: 18
Biology: 16
PAT: 18

Cumulative GPA: 3.61 Science GPA: 3.43
Cali Resident
200+ hours shadowing dentist
500+ hours volunteering in ER
100+ hours shadowing in OR
6000+ hours USSF Referee
100+ hours NCAA Referee
Former Statistics and Genetics Tutor
Co-founder of pre-health fraternity
Currently a lecturer at a university (biology and chemistry)
4 Solid LOR's

I think I would be in better shape taking microbiology to open up some more applications to schools as I do not have this course. Should I also take anatomy to open up more doors to schools?

Your scores are at, or slightly below average, but if you apply broadly and early then you should have a good chance of being accepted somewhere. Check out the requirements for schools. A lot of them require microbiology, biochem, anatomy and physiology. Of course you can take these after you're accepted, but why not take one or two before acceptance to lighten the load later?

I have yet to apply, but I think that you would have a good shot. Your DAT isn't the greatest compared to a lot of the scores you see on SDN, but I've seen plenty of people get in with those scores. You also have nice EC's. I would also suggest taking the other science classes that are required to open more doors, and it could slightly boost your science GPA if you do well. I am taking those classes (anatomy, microbiology, then physiology, biochemistry) because even if they aren't required they are at least recommended by basically every school.

I got in this cycle with a simiular DAT and much lower gpa. I didn't have a problem getting interviews either. You're good to go! PM. Me if you want details of my app.

With your EC and GPA you might get in if you apply to many schools. If you really want to solidify your chances I would recommend a retake and get a 20AA or higher. Strange though how you have a good GPA but got an avg DAT score, try changing up your study habits.

You are fine DJ Tiesto.

Your scores, GPA, and ECs are fine! As Blake1e stated, a 20AA would solidify your chances of getting an interview, but you seem to be in a great spot already. Also, if you apply June 1st, you'll be in even better shape. And take some of the classes -- even if they aren't required for acceptance to some schools, you will learn important things that will carry over into dental school.

And I disagree with customx. Your scores are not average and certainly not below average. A 17AA is average... Keep up the good work.
