Hey guys, I'm applying this upcoming cycle, so I will have one gap year. some stats are below

GPA: 3.24/3.0s with a clear upward trend
MCAT: 513
EC's: VP of on-campus club for 4 semesters, 3-month internship at a hospital, doing a research project and getting 200+ shadowing hours in many departments.

-Assuming I have good LOR's and a good PS, what do you think if I apply broadly to DO's?
-My GPA is low, although I do have a good reason as to why it was low my first 3 semesters (illness) if that makes any difference.
-Im from CA by the way

Thanks for your input!

If you actually do score well on the MCAT and apply broadly, you'll may be okay. However, until you actually have a score it's a little difficult to gauge, especially with your lower gpas. Can you take some more undergrad courses in a post-bacc? Increasing your gpa would be very helpful.

Hey guys, I'm aplying this upcoming cycle, and graduating undergrad in one month, so I will have one gap year. some stats are below

MCAT: 510

-Also, I am taking the MCAT this week, but I've been getting 510-512 every practice test, so lets assume I score a 510 for all intensive purposes.

Chances good!

I think “IF” you get the said mcat score (or lower score as long as it’s to the right of 500) you’ll be okay at most DO schools except KCU which I think has a higher cut off for gpa.
My cGpa was lower than KCUs cutoff and i was interviewed

Thanks for the input, I feel good about the MCAT, i've taken 6 FL's and never scored below a 507, with three tests out of those 6 being 511, but we will see in a month what I get.

currently I'm planning to apply to Western, PNWUCOM, PCOM, LECOM, AZCOM, Touro-NV, VCOM, ATSU-AZ, NYIT.

Are there any I should add/take off?

You might want to add some of the newer schools just to round out your list a bit: ACOM, ARCOM, Marian, for example.

Come back with your MCAT and we can finish out a school list

Also wondering what my chances are. Graduating in 1 month and applying this cycle I'm going to have 1 gap year. Stats:
GPA: c3.35 s3.4
MCAT: 498 on AAMC practice diagnostic 2 months ago- have been studying since then and hoping to score a 505 or greater.
EC: 1500 hrs scribing, 1 promotion to a trainer, 300 hrs medical assistant (DO office), CNA, 2 medical mission trips to south america (~180 hours), local volunteer work, college athlete, sorority leadership position
2 amazing DO letters of rec, 1 MD

I'm going to apply very broadly but I'm still nervous about getting rejected from every school due to my low GPA.

Your GPA is not that low for DO. It will be above average at a few places. Everything else you have seems great and above average so you should have a great shot as long as your MCAT looks good. Make sure to research all the schools and figure out what they want so you can apply to the best ones.

Just updated the first post with my MCAT score I got today. What DO schools should I target?

Congrats on the great MCAT score! Hard work pays off! As for applying to schools, I say apply broadly. I would definitely apply to some of the newer schools as previous posters have pointed out. Your GPA can be a concern but it really comes down to who is reviewing your application. Some might overlook the lower gpa with that great mcat score you have. However I would play it safe and apply to at least 5-6 newer schools. Good luck!
