Have you volunteered/shadowed/attended events at any dental schools? networking, volunteering in a D-school clinic, shadow faculty, etc.

how come no Buffalo?

how come no Buffalo?
Worked with a doctor who graduated there. Got a very frank description of the school and city. I don’t think the setting would be a healthy one. TLDR, too north

No, not explicitly. I have shadowed an oral surgeon who oversees some program at columbia.

reach (but not huge with your stats) (however, these schools are in the 8-10 toughest schools to get into in the country outside of TX schools)
Columbia
UCLA
harvard
university of pacific

in-range
Stony brook
uconn
virginia commonwealth
oregon (does not make sense regionally)
university of washington (they generally accept in PNW)

safeties (but you may suffer from yield management)
boston university
NYU

when written out like this, you may need to add buffalo and one or two more publics...

I meant application fee. Like I would have to dig deep to find more cash to apply. In your opinion, how hopeful is buffalo?
truthfully, your chances at buffalo are likely better than all but stony
but no one can tell accurately at this point, it's all tendencies...

Thank you. This is very comprehensive. I will likely add Buffalo for safety reason. It’s only a couple hundred bucks right now for long term security.

What advice have your prehealth advisors given you? It doesn't sound like you have had much encouragement... which seems odd to me.

You need to leverage every advantage that NY in-state applications give you, even if you aren't enamored by Buffalo. They're a solid public school. If you're complaining about money now, you'll need every in-state tuition break you can get.

If you have never grown up in the PacNW, Oregon and Washington are out of play as an OOS. This isn't undergrad where your metrics can carry you far. Do you really want to travel cross country to go to dental school? I'm more inclined for UoP, but then you should also add Roseman (the other 3-year school). UCLA is tough for OOS unless there is a real mission fit. LA and NY are extremely saturated with dentists.

My issue is you have no community service to speak of. No food distribution, shelter volunteer, job/tax preparation, legal support, transportation services, or housing rehabilitation, especially off-campus. All you need is 100 hours before applying to give some credibility that you like to help people and want to understand the challenges underrepresented and underresourced patients face when you meet them as a dentist or dental assistant. It also can be nice to see you have some responsibility with customer service (retail, restaurant work, etc.)... maybe you have that.
