Yes, I know, you've seen a ton of these posts already, but I'd love to get an honest opinion on my chances of acceptance into Dental school. Here are my stats:



Undergrad Ed: LIFE SCIENCE DEGREE (BS)
Cumulative Undergrad. GPA: 3.04 (two F's) otherwise 3.21
Science Undergrad. GPA: 2.92 - (two F's) otherwise 3.20
BCP Undergrad. GPA: 3.10 - (one F) otherwise 3.26
Non Science Undergrad. GPA: 3.19


1st DAT: Academic, Science, PAT (SOON)
2nd DAT: Academic, Science, PAT (Once is good enough for me)

Extracurricular/Research Activities: Some, not much. Shadowed 30 hrs.

Schools I will Apply to: UOP, BOSTON, NYU, and some others (any ideas)

AADSAS Submit Date: ASAP!

Honestly, what do you want people to say? You haven't taken the DAT yet and you list a random 3 schools that you're applying to.

Enough with the spam posts already, I think it makes it difficult for guests to know when to honestly respond to you and when to just ignore the posts.

not very good if you are applying with 2 F's in science. you may want to take those 2 over and make a coulpe of A's. pick up GPA and prove to the schools that dentistry is what you really want. the process may take a little longer b/c of gpa but hang in there and eventually you'll get in somewhere. knock out the DAT (especially in total science and PAT) and then pray for an interview.

I'm supportive of your choice to continue to pursue dentistry and have felt bad for the negative responses you have received in many of your posts. . .but maybe you should stop pretending you know things when you obviously don't (and if you do, why are you asking?).

To the OP:

As some have mentioned before, you have built up quite a reputation as a post-***** on this site. If you want people to take you more seriously, maybe you should act more professional. Your sincerity is in doubt in my opinion because you claim that you have applied 4 times already, yet you have never taken the DAT???? Maybe you should explain that????

Just looking at your stats, you are below average (which means getting in will be more difficult for you). Many schools have minimum requirements for GPA and DAT scores. So that means you need to apply to schools that will not instantly reject you based on stats alone (sorry I don't know what schools that would be, the easiest way is to just call some schools you are interested in and ask them if you really even have a chance).

You can still make yourself an attractive applicant by showing your worth in other ways like comminuty service, extensive dental shadowing, leadership ability, work experience. It is clear by the number of posts that you have plastered all over SDN that you have an abundant supply of free time to waste. If I were you I would start doing something with all that free time that would look good on an application, because you can't put "post-*****" down on your aadsas application anywhere.

I agree, be honest yo. YOu are throwing everyone off, and creating unnecessary drama for fun. However, I am also applying in the same year as yourself, and have searched many forums regarding people with low stats. People do get in with low stats, and some people dont. You should check our Yah E's under 3.0 club form last year to see what he did to get in.

I have noticed your discussions here on SDN. I know the feeling of anxiety, believe me, as I just finished everything for the application cycle this year and took the DAT a week ago. It is alot. But try and focus.

So advice: I got into the habit of sitting here in front of the computer and looking up what others had to say about the app cycle and stuff, and realized HEY, i need to study for the DAT and the classes i am taking. So I did just that. best decision of the past few months.

Work your butt off and spend as much time on the DAT and getting LORs and less time here on the SDN. I know you can kill the DAT and if you do that don't worry about everything else. I am sure you are a very motivated person from MOST of your posts. GOOD LUCK!

100% agree...seriously who the hell are you to make judgments on other people's DAT scores and GPA averages and then ask what your chances are? By the way no adcom CARES that w/o 2 F's in the pre-req sciences (or any sciences for that matter) you would have a higher gpa. Your gpa is what it is and anything short of a post-bacc program wont change that. I am not going to bash you about the amount of posts you put up on a daily basis because I saw when you mentioned that your work requires you to be on the computer a lot...however...in your free time stay away from SDN!!! Its hard to do but is necessary to get the score that you want on the DAT.

LAST POINT AND SOMETHING THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL APPLICANTS...MOST OF US DONT WORK FOR THE ADMISSION DEPARTMENTS OF THE VARIOUS DENTAL SCHOOLS. IF YOU WANT AN HONEST OPINION CALL THE DAMN SCHOOLS AND ASK THEM IF YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY BY APPLYING TO THEIR PROGRAM. MOST WILL GIVE YOU AN HONEST ANSWER IF YOU SHOULD OR SHOULD NOT APPLY (NOTICE I SAID APPLY...THEY WONT TELL YOU IF WILL BE ACCEPTED OR NOT)
