I'm a nontraditional undergrad, I'm 24 as of now. I pretty much didn't go to high school, can't believe I made it this far...here's my application, I am applying in June. I live in the northeast, which schools do you think I should apply to and what are my chances of getting interviews? I know my GPA is light...

MCAT: 32Q
GPA: 3.4
University of Maryland in College Park (graduating spring 2010)

Misc:
Biology Honors Program
Primary author of published research paper
Undergraduate Researcher
Volunteered 100+ hours at University of Maryland Shock Trauma OR
In a touring rock band

I think you have a shot....that GPA is gonna hurt though.

I would like to see some shadowing, tutoring, leadership......

I am trying to my hardest to get it up to 3.5 before I apply, I think its doable because I have this semester and then one in the spring. I'm going to look into shadowing and more volunteer stuff.

If you can get to a GPA of 3.5 and add the needed ECs, you should be fine. For an idea of schools in your potential range, take a look at the School Selection spreadsheet stickied to the top of this forum and plug in your numbers.

If you have the time, I would also try to add in some non-med volunteering. It makes the app more well-rounded.....

I def think the 3.5 is a much better looking number.
