Just took mt DAT and my scores are as follows:
Bio 16 🙁
Chem 21
Organic 21
Reading 18
Quantitative Reasoning 24
PAT 20
TS 19
AA 20

My cumulative GPA is 3.64 and Science GPA is 3.53
I am a TX resident and I have applied to 12 schools.
I am very scared because I don't feel that my stats are strong, do I still have a chance of getting in?

Unfortunately your bio is very low :/ I saw some statistics and there is not one school that does not have it as one of the top priority scores. But you post here to receive some encouragement! And your AA and TS to themselves are very solid correlating with your GPA. At least you didn't forget to put your shadowing experience on your application! i did lol!

Good luck! and hope for the best! you will be fine! 👍

Your AA, PAT, and GPA are all competitive. However, schools stress Reading and Bio probably more than any other AA sections. QR means absolutely nothing except to affect your AA and is simply a threshold score, much like PAT for some schools (while some schools highly stress PAT).

I would call the schools you're interested in and seek their advice. It's your best option, as I have a friend who was held out this year just b/c of her PAT (17) while her AA and TS were solid.

low chance of getting in

You must be out of your mind.
You must be blind.

Yeah. I'd apply and plan for a retake! May or may not be necessary, but best be prepared for the worst.

Your scores are decent except for the 16 in Bio. The first time I took the DAT, I also had a 16 in Bio but an 18 AA. Most schools wouldn't give me the time of day. In fact the only school that gave me an interview was my state school. You could try applying but your chances may be lower because of that 16

Not to be harsh here but 16 is a bit low...and 18 isn't ideal for reading either, so it's the best if you could retake.

You must be blind.

Whatever.

I can guarantee that OP will get at least an interview.

3.5+ GPA and 20 AA

not everyone is a nerd and gets 24+AA

I'll actually be knowledgeable about this topic for you. If you choose your schools wisely you are going to get in as long as you have ECs as well, 16 isn't the end of the world> A friend of mine had a 19 TS and a 16 PAT last cycle and got into 3 schools. I also know a friend who has a 14 on organic and got into 2 schools. People who say low chance are caught in a myth that you need 20s or higher to get in, which is false. HEre is a way to think about it. WHen you see the AA or PAT DAT scores at 19-20 they obviously accept kids with 22s and 23s and higher. Therefore, the way schools average it out is not by taking a student with a 16 AA they take many with 18s and 19s.

I also spoke with a DOA and he talked about how idiotic some people are on this website.
So you will get interviews and the rest is up to you on a interview

Do-able if you pick schools wisely. Needless to say speak to the ones you have in mind and make sure not to waste time and money on highly competitive ones. Your GPA is good so apply more towards schools that emphasize GPA (i.e. avoid DAT emphasizing schools like UOP, Columbia etc.)

hahahahaha this site blows my mind! When you look at doc toothache statics that he posts a 19 is avg for students getting into dental school but for some reason or another if you don't have a 64738292 AA then don't even apply

OP, I would say you have a shot. If you have a good personality and EC, your good. All you need is one school to say we like you then who gives a $h!t about your DAT. Good luck buddy!!!

You should be good to go...great GPA and good DAT's will get you several interviews. No individual score is more important than TS, AA, PAT, and RC. It seems that you have locked those ones up nicely! GL..dont worry so much, and do not just apply to texas schools.

While your averages are ok, your bio must come up, retake

Exactly. I hate these nerds on SDN who think that we need at least 24+ to get in.

One thing is to be optimistic, and another to be realistic. I do think everything you have is solid, but bio is just low. That we all have to acknowledge! Non of us can tell you if you will get in. Only the admissions of the individual schools can. Good Luck!

Reading some of the replies make me feel a lot better about my score ... I got a 16 on RC but 21 for AA, TS, and PAT, yet so many people told me to retake and have low chance of getting in anywhere lol ...

I am studying for the DAT right now and would kill for theses scores! One 16 is not the end of the world I think. Of course people that say a 21+ is needed to get in probably only have d school to think about and don't work, or have many hobbies. Me for example I have two jobs and a list of hobbies out the door. I can not sit and study my life away, if you have to be a basement book worm to be a dentist then I need to change my mind lol! The dentist I shadow are outgoing, active and ***** kickers not books worms lol 👍

Yeah. Some of the SDN'ers will scare the crap out of you...whether from people like DoeAdeer doing his thing..Slim to no chance sorry....or from the majority of people posting DAT breakdowns getting 25s...etc..etc...

After talking with ADCOMS and admitted dental students, I have learned to look past it.

What did the adcoms and admitted students say about admissions?

I'm not referencing a specific example.

Stats aren't everything people.

People with bad stats get admitted, people with good stats get rejected...Making a statement like you have a low chance of getting in when you have an average to above average GPA, good AA, and know no background info...because of only one bad score, is incredible.

Sometimes it's ok to do that, if the person has a 13 in a section, or a 2.75 GPA or something...

Could you list examples of applicants with good stats that didn't get into any schools? I'm trying to identify weaknesses in my own candidacy.

OP, keep your chin up! I have two 15's in gc and qr with an AA17. So don't feel bad. I'm retaking in September, but the rest of my app is very attractive i think. So hope we both hear good news!
