Hi all,

I was a biology major my first year of undergrad and managed to have a 3.4 overall GPA and a 3.2 science gpa. I later changed my major and graduated with a Journalism degree. I'm now doing a postbac premed program but am not doing too great. I don't think I'll have anything higher than B's in my classes (Orgo I, Physics I and an upper level bio class). I calculated everything and that will bring my science GPA down to a 3.1. I'm constantly studying and understand most of the material, but I'm just a horrible test taker.

I'm planning on taking my MCAT in May and again in July 2013. Do you think I have a chance of getting accepted to an MD school?

Thanks

With a decent mcat and ECs you have a chance at DOs and weak or maybe in state MDs.

No. You ideally need to be >3.5.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm really trying hard to boost my grades by the end of the semester. It is possible for me to have an A in orgo but I will have to ace the next exam, which I'm very nervous about. Do you have any pointers on taking exams? How to not be nervous?

If you have test taking anxiety issues, then you need to contact your school's counseling service (I'm assuming they have one), Also, if there's an educational specialist, that helps with learning, seek them out too.

if you want MD you should try to bring your science GPA up to at least 3.3 and you'll have to do well when you take the MCAT

Know the material cold. Don't study for a set amount of time. Study until you can answer every practice problem without hesitation. Be prepared to spend a week+ in the lib studying.

Thanks everyone! I will try to apply all of this advice to my daily routine!
