And this place pounces on the slightest show of weakness. True story.

I just thought I'd post something inspirational....

I appreciate your comment.
I agree that SDN is too negative sometimes. I would like to see more support around here rather than crabs in a bucket.

Edit: I am not discounting any statements made on this thread, but I do think they could have been expressed more tactfully.

Hello Everyone,

I am currently in my fourth year of Undergrad and I currently have a 2.126 GPA. I am really struggling with balancing my tumultuous home life with being a successful college student. I am looking to attend a MD school (not open to the DO option), but I am really unsure of what I need to analyze to get a full glimpse of any chance that I may have at getting into a school. Feel free to offer advice or add criticisms. All thoughts will be taken into account.

"Not open to the DO option"

Are you freaking kidding me? Not even DO schools would accept you (DO schools are actually still really competitive)! You would be LUCKY if you got into some low grade international school. Honestly my personal advice for you is to find a job and try school again some other time. Clearly academics aren't your forte. Do some independent study and exercise your brain. Once you feel you can do well again try what's called a PostBac.

OP straight up said they aren't open to the DO option. OP does not deserve tactful responses.

"All thoughts taken into account"...here's a thought: Be less concerned with the 2 letters behind your name than the "Dr." infront of it.

Getting your GPA above 3.0 is a great step. Honestly though, your chances for DO will be much higher than chances for MD. Either route, you'll still be a doctor. It would be realistic to apply to mainly DO schools and maybe some lower tier MD schools as reaches. Check out the average stats of the schools you want to apply to and see how you compare. Definitely do a post bacc or SMP and get as many A's as possible, as an upward trend will look good and show that you can handle rigorous courses. Also get a high score on the MCAT. You can get far if you're willing to put the work in.

The answer to your "what are my chances" question can be found by answering my question.

What is the limit of "x" as "x" approaches infinity?

Hint: the answer is 0.

Finally got some insight into my medical school application process. I miscalculated my GPA by dividing with the wrong number. My GPA is currently a 3.058

how does someone not "know" that their GPA is roughly either a 3.0 or a 2.0 without doing any calculations at all???

If you have over a 3.0 you might be able to get into some SMPs. That is your best route into an MD school.

Its Ponce Medical school in Puerto Rico. Thats your best chance for medical school in the USA

Sorry, but this sounds kinda ridiculous. Ponce's average entering GPA is 3.62.

With the OP having a 2.1 I don't think he has much of a chance. Though the OP did later say that he "miscalculated" and he actually has around a 3.0. Even with a 3.0, he's unlikely to be accepted at Ponce.
