Hey everyone. If anyone could give me some good advice/constructive criticism I would really really appreciate it. I will be re-applying to dental school this application cycle and I am anxious to see how I size up. I recently fell short of admittance but did receive an interview : / This time I want to make it happen and I feel like I can if I put in the effort. I took the DAT the summer going into my Junior year. I didn't take it the summer after because I thought I would be ok (obviously I was dead wrong). I just graduated and will be taking the DAT in August. Source recommendations this go around would be nice. I just studied out of the Kaplan review book and it was okay.

DAT:
AA-18
PA-22
RC-19
QR-16
BIO-19
GC-18
OC-18
Science- 18

GPA- 3.35
Science - 3.0

Extra Curricular:
ALOT

Thanks for the help!!

In a similar situation. I will be retaking the DAT in July. This is my second time applying. I applied two years ago and received one interview (although I did apply late). Your sGPA is a little low but hopefully you still have a great chance of getting in. Best of luck to you

Well you sorta..have two problems, but you are addressing them so kudos to you!

1: Your GPA is low

2: Your DAT is low

You want to be around the 3.5sci gpa 19 DAT median. If you are not at that median, then you need to either have a high DAT or high sci gpa.

"I would suggest taking your DAT again. 21 or 22 would greatly increase your chances."---i reread your post sounds like you have an excellent plan.

Remember admissions are tricky. Some people can waltz in with sub-par stats, and others will have to bust their tails even with great credentials. take some classes to up the gpa if at all possible. Keep your head up once you get there it will be worth it.

What was your major? Do you already have a lot of science credits? What are you doing for the next year? I would think that a post-bac could help you a lot. Assuming you smoke it, which you need to, it would bring up your sGPA and give you the beginnings of a solid upward trend. You might consider a retake as well, but you had better show a lot of improvement or it will bite you. Good luck!

Thanks guys for the encouragement and analysis. If there is any more advice I would love to hear it.

theleatherwalle- I hope that this time around I will be in that DAT range. I feel more confident because I have taken many science classes since the last time I took the test, although I will be a little rusty on my ochem and gchem.

Tirekicker- I recently graduated from Pepperdine University with a B.S. in Biology. I have done some research; I played baseball my first two year of college. This next year I will be taking some grad classes (only 2) and working in a dental office. (Sorry I made a mistake on the previous post, I meant post-undergrade, which is grad (nice one me). Although my past two years did feel like that, ha)

Finchy- best of luck to you as well!

Thanks again!
