Im very interested in joining the Navy and I have already contacted a recruiter. I am just waiting for a call for now but I was curious about the requirements to get accepted into the HPSP or HSCP program.

What is the GPA requirement? DAT score? Is there a requirement?

Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What year are you applying for, the scholarship start time? 2012?

lol there is a height.weight requirement? interesting....

More like a height:weight ratio. You can't be overweight; although I have seen students get a waiver for being a little overweight.

Which program did you get in? HSCP or HPSP?

I am also applying to dental schools this year. Is there anything you are able to do at this point, before being accepted to a program, or must you be accepted before you can really pursue a HPSP? I have talked to multiple recruiters up to this point and haven't gotten any helpful information. Each one has said, "I am not a medical recruiter, let me forward your info to a medical recruiter." Needless to say I still haven't been able to contact anybody who knows anything, which is quite frustrating.

You can apply before being accepted, which is highly recommended to be competitive. I would not call I would go to the office and not leave until you start the application process.

Do you have to be an American citizen to be eligible for all these military scholarships? Do green cards not count?

I'm not sure where you got this info (I've never seen "basic" requirements), and I'm not challenging it, but I do want to make an addendum based on the paperwork I was given by my recruiting office.

Navy Dental Corps: HPSP requirements

cGPA: 3.6 or higher
DAT score for TS: 22+
No Moral or ethical issues
Physically qualified (NO medical waivers)
Meets height/weight standards (body fat used if over HT/WT)

"Letters of Acceptance" for four-year scholarships must be received by Dental Program Manager no later than 1 June of the current recruiting year, final selection dependent upon availability of remaining scholarships.

Just finished NASIS myself, the application process is definitely chock-full of paperwork.

I am going to comment on this because during the 2 different times I had to take medical leave of abscences from dental school while in the HSCP program, I had to work at the recruiting district in officer programs. please see my comments in bold in the quote below.

Navy Dental Corps: HPSP requirements

cGPA: 3.6 or higher - wrong - you have to have a minimum of 3.0, but to be competative usually you need at least a 3.4
DAT score for TS: 22+ wrong - you need at least an 18. The higher the better, but only the top few percent of people have a 22 or higher. So, it is not even possible to require a 22+
No Moral or ethical issues - depends on your definition of this is
Physically qualified (NO medical waivers) - wrong - I saw waivers on multiple HPSP/HSCP selectees including myself
Meets height/weight standards (body fat used if over HT/WT).

"Letters of Acceptance" for four-year scholarships must be received by Dental Program Manager no later than 1 June of the current recruiting year, final selection dependent upon availability of remaining scholarships. Applications are accepted year round. The recruiters may hold off on submitting the application if no scholarships are currently available. The scholarship money is based around the federal fiscal year that runs from Oct 1st to Sept 30th. So, if scholarships are running low or are all out, the recruiter may hold on to the application and submit it at a time where it coincides with the initial meeting of the selection committe for the new fiscal year. That is what they did for my application.

I wasn't saying any of this from some kind of word of mouth. This was quoted directly from a form I was given by Navy recruiting.

In any case, it strikes me as quite strange that in both your and my case we have "official" information that is in conflict. Can I simply assume that this is a failure to be up-to-date on the part of Navy Officer Programs branch in my state? (You'd think they'd have it right being at the same location as US Pacific Fleet HQ)

Addendum: So I went in for a paperwork session today, my recruiter is sitting there looking over everything and he starts telling me my 22 TS is borderline, and that he usually gets 25s and 27s. I'm thinking, is this guy ****ing with me? Then he goes, "I even had a 31"... now I don't know what to say, does this guy even know anything about the DAT? Anyway, adventures in the recruiting office. Guess mine's credibility just dropped considerably.

My question is whether he is confusing the DAT with the MCAT.

My question is whether he is confusing the DAT with the MCAT.

I found a few recruiters who confused the two. I think one recruiter didn't call me back because my DAT scores were in the low 20's.
To be fair there is probably a lot more medical HPSP students then dental.

Maybe he is... but either way it's frustrating. He's having me get interviewed now as well, which originally I thought was being waived due to meeting certain pre-set criteria, but then after he was giving me that talk about my DAT he decides I need an interview with a Navy officer.
