Since we're on the subject anyway...

What are y'all taking next semester? What courses are you most looking forward to? What courses are you not looking forward to?

I'll start.

I'm taking...

Honours thesis
Second half of Human Anatomy and Physiology
Organic Chemistry II
Neurobiology
Statistics II

*shudders*

I dropped Ichthyology to take Neuro... I reaaalllly wanted to take fish, but I decided to take another vertebrate anatomy/physiology because it's weighted heavily on my vet school application... *sigh*

It's not going to be a fun semester.

But on the brightside, my earliest class begins at 11:30... no more 8am-6pm days!

Oh boy, a chance to showcase my insanity!

Immunology
Pathogenic Microbiology
Molecular Microbiology Lab II
Advanced Cell and Molecular Biology
Biochemistry II
Logic & Critical Thinking (online course, just need this credit type to graduate)

18 credit hours total...

I've heard that immuno is pretty dry, mostly because of the professor. We'll see. I'm taking biochem II purely for fun... yeah, that's right, just for fun. Haha. We'll also see how that goes!

I'm looking forward to next semester.

Metabolism (may as well be called biochem II)
Physiology
Biotechnology in Film
Risk Assessment and Prevention
Chemical Process Safety

I am looking forward to metabolism since it's the same professor as biochem, and I love having her as a teacher.

Physiology might be interesting because I haven't taken anatomy yet.

All in all it should be a good semester.

Organic Chemistry II (which is an 8:30 class *groan*)
Microbial Ecology
Philosophy of Biology
Intro Biochemistry
Intro Biochemisty Lab (separate course from Intro Biochem)

Oooh nice topic. We can all gape at each others' insanity.

Still waiting to hear back from two schools to see if I need the second semester of organic lab. If they don't want it, I am totally dropping that thing.

Orgo II Lab (?)
War and Peace (fulfills a gen ed requirement)
Forensic Psychology (really looking forward to this!)
Senior Seminar (a biology seminar type class where we all do presentations and nothing else for the rest of the semester)
Developmental Biology
Thesis
Internship (so excited--I start on Monday at a specialty hospital: I'm going to be helping out/shadowing in the different vet specialties, including Emergency/CC, behavior, neuro, and physical therapy. AND I get credit for it!)

Total: 17 or 15 credits, depending on the lab.

I am dead. Fricking. Jealous. 😀

You have no idea how hard it was to get this internship. I applied like 4 times (long story), heard back three months later after the last application with paperwork and then no one returned my phone calls/emails/frantic and obsessive behavior. Gave up. I find out at the beginning of the semester that my university has just started a formal partnership with the hospital and they're taking applications! HA! I apply, beat 10 other people out of the position, and the woman in charge responds in 2 hours. I was floored. I am really super especially excited because my shadowing/volunteering has thus far been in general practice, and I find myself getting really bored with it. Definitely want to see if I have it in me for a specialty!!!!

Done with thread hijack 🙂

Parasitology
Principles of Evolution
Intro to Botany
Creation Myth

May or may not drop the evolution class. I've really liked evolution classes that I've taken in the past and this one conveniently uses the same book as another class I've taken, but I've heard that it's not a very good class... so we'll see. It won't really affect anything if I take it or not.

I'm really excited for parasitology, though. I wanted to take it last winter, but couldn't fit in in around other classes and work.

Oh boy, a chance to showcase my insanity!

Immunology
Pathogenic Microbiology
Molecular Microbiology Lab II
Advanced Cell and Molecular Biology
Biochemistry II
Logic & Critical Thinking (online course, just need this credit type to graduate)

How is that only 18 credits?

Hmm... well...

3 - Immunology
4 - Pathogenic Microbiology + lab
2 - Molecular Microbiology Lab II
3 - Advanced Cell and Molecular Biology
3 - Biochemistry II
3 - Logic & Critical Thinking (online course, just need this credit type to graduate)

These are semester credits... dunno if that makes a difference.

I'm about half and half on my next semester...

Animal Welfare, Ethics & Societal Responsibility 🙂D)
Captive Animal Biology 🙂))
Quantitative Chemistry 🙂scared🙂
Physics II 🙂thumbdown)
Bio-Medical Ethics 🙂cool🙂
Genetics Lab 🙂rolleyes🙂

I am taking a BREAK. 😱

Actually I have to do the online Animal Nutrition course I registered for in like, September, but as I have a year to complete it I'm not too worried. And SERIOUSLY looking forward to not spending huge amounts of money on classes. I considered taking just one class since they are finally offering histology, but I absolutely can't stand the professor and I absolutely can't afford it. 🙁

After a year and a half of non-stop mania, I am so very very very happy to say I have NO MORE CLASSES!! At least no more undergrad bio/chem/physics pre-req's!! I get to enjoy my last 7 months of freedom until vet school begins in Sept😀 Then again, maybe it will be a little harder to get back into the daily routine of going to class after 7 months of sleeping in....then again, maybe not!

Me too!!! DONE with undergrad and working full-time at a vet clinic until school starts. I was on top of my game last semester, and I really hope those study habits will quickly return come September! Then again, going to class full-time and not worrying about part-time jobs will help a ton, I think.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot that I may have to take cell biology as a one-day-a-week night course this semester if I decide on MSU (why did I not realize I was missing a pre-req when I applied??? Who knows!) but that should be easy peasy compared to my last semester.

It seems like you guys are taking tons of classes! I only ever took 4 classes in a semester with 2 labs, and we were "overloading" if we took more than 4 classes and would have to pay more. Different schools, I guess.

Thesis project
Pathoanatomy
Social psych
Health systems and health policy
Bioethics

Looking forward to social psych and patho..not looking forward to health systems blehhhhhhh. But I am happy because this is my easy semester after the dragon of last semester 🙂.

I was going to take more classes for my Master's program this semester but if I get into vet school this time around I'll be leaving the Master's program and would rather not waste extra money/time. So I'm just taking the minimum to be full time.

Introduction to Environmental Health
Epidemiology Methods: Observational Design
Model for Binary Public Health Outcome

I'm also taking a distance learning Animal Nutrition class through Oklahoma State that I've been signed up for since August and really need to get a move on!

I just graduated (Bachelor's), so I'll be taking a whole lot of... nothing. 😀

Unless I end up getting accepted or waitlisted for one of the programs that would require me to take an additional course... in which case, almost nothing. 😉

I'm psyched. I saved everything I thought would be awful or unnecessarily difficult for the very end (huge mistake), and it's been over a year since I've taken anything that was even remotely easy or interesting (for me). By last semester, I'd reached the point where I was actually excited about Biochem, people... Biochem... simply because it was the least offensive thing I'd taken in so long. A break is in order. 😉

😀 must be a good feeling what was your degree in?

I am taking..
Chem 2 (I have a good prof so that should be ok)
Calc 1 (ugh) not excited to take
Anatomy and Physiology
Physics 2 (Prof is good)
Zoology (The most interesting class this semester but I hear the Prof is a real Wackadoodle)
Junior seminar (Boring!)
May 10th cant get here fast enough!

Haha, I'm taking the same Nutrition course through OK that I also signed up for in August and am trying to get myself to finish!
Plus:
Immunology
Biochem II
Microbiology
Microbiology lab
Physics II

I'm currently registered for:

Physics 2 (Night class)
Biochem
Wildlife Biology
Population Genetics
Business Writing
Equine Science

I'm not too worried about the classes (except Biochem), but my schedule itself looks awful. Between 8am classes, 6:30pm labs, and 7 hour gaps it should be an interesting semester to say the least.

😀 must be a good feeling what was your degree in?

I'm a Biology major with a minor in Chem (through no fault of my own... the vet school prereqs met my school's criteria for a minor). 🙂

It feels awesome!

My first attempt at college was something of a bust. I took some time off, went back and started over at another school. To be honest, after the first go, I never thought I'd ever graduate... let alone with honors and something resembling a competitive application. (When I realized I wanted to pursue a career in vet med, I basically thought my life was over, haha.) So, to those of you lurking who might be reading others' stats and thinking 'I made some mistakes, it's over, I can't do this'... believe me- if I can do it, so can you. 😀

I am taking:

Microbiology + Lab
Biometry (Bio Stats) + Lab
Toxicology + Lab
Advanced Organic Chem (just for fun!)

I am actually really excited for this semester! All the professors are awesome and I have had them in previous classes 🙂

Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy - woooo!
Neuroethology - animal behavior class was at the same time as the anatomy, which doesn't make much sense, so this was the closest thing to it I could take.
College Physics II - alright
Organic Chemistry II - blahhh

I think I may end up minoring in Chemistry as well. I'm really considering Florida and they require more Chemistry than Biology prereqs so it should come in handy.

In order from most exciting to super sucky:
-Veterinary physiology
-Principles of avian disease
-Embryology
-Biochem II
-Organic chem II/lab

I'm so excited about half of my classes and dreading the other half

Gen Chem II-4 credits
Gen Physics I-5 credits
Biology Seminar-.5 credits
Vertebrate Zoology-4 credits

I really want to take Genetics or Biochem but they were full up.

I LOVED Comparative Vert Anatomy (I just finished it this semester). I might just be a weirdo though 😉

Spring: Developmental Biology
Molecular Bio I
Philosophy of Self and Other
Borderlands Writing
Intro to Animal Science (reader)

I wanted to take it easier in my last semester as undergrad. But, devo and molecular may destroy me 😱

I took Developmental, Molecular, and Orgo II together... least favorite semester, hands down, but it was doable. 😉

:xf:

(BTW, the Cell & Molec and Developmental professors at my school weren't the greatest- you might like them. Molecular wasn't quite as painful as I expected... wish I'd taken Behavioral Neurobiology instead of Developmental, though!)

I can't afford to take a full load of classes, but I have to take at least 6 cr in order to get my health insurance. I'm currently signed up for...

Physics II w/lab
Neuroanatomy w/lab
Livestock Handling
Animal Nutrition (OK State)

I'll probably have to drop Neuro due to $. Sucks. Dr. Fails is supposed to be really good (despite her unfortunate name).

The livestock handling is Temple's class. SO looking forward to that one!

I'd like to find a P/T job as well, but that's going to be tough since I'll be moving at the end of May. Might hit up the temp agencies. Finding a job in Ft. Collins is nearly impossible, esp with the economy the way it is. This town is getting to be known as the town with PhD waiters.

Hopefully I'll have better luck on the job front this summer in a larger town like, say, Columbus.

😀😀😀👍👍👍

I have a feeling I'm going to love it too! I'm so excited for it. Everyone keeps telling me it's one of the most difficult classes you can take for a biology major. But, oh well! I just took Vertebrate Zoology and that gave me some background on anatomy. Plus, I interned in a surgery department so with both of those I should be fine 😀

In order from 😍 to :barf:

Anatomy and Physiology of Farm Animals
History of the Holocaust
Ruminant Nutrition
Merchandising Purebred Livestock
Microbiology Lab
Biochemistry

17 credits

General Zoology
Entomology (I am stupid excited about this one yay bugs!!!)
Medical Terminology
Statistics
French I

17 credit hours. Wooo.

Well I am kinda a student who decides as they go... lol....

So far I am registered for:

Parasitology
Physics II + Lab
Biochem
Biochem lab

---> Now I found out I dont need to take the biochem lab, so if I decide not do do that I may take Embryology or this dumb computer concept class I have to take to satisfy graduation requirements. I don't know I am baffled by this problem that I probably won't decide on until the last minute.

Any impute?

Ooooo sweet topic!

I'm TA'ing: Companion Animal Management
Advanced Repro and Biotech
Immunology (700 level course.. what am I thinking?!?:scared:)
Princ. of Toxicology
Biochemistry of gene expression

FML I'm excited but scared. I know I've overloaded myself but oh well..

Nice topic

Im taking:
genetic (I've been putting this off)
Primate biology
evolution of the dinosaurs
Historians of ancient greece and rome
TA for animal physiology

I only have classes tues, wed, and thurs (4 day weekends! ill probably be working those days but still)

I was almost taking companion animal management! I had a last minute schedule change that made it impossible to fit in either of the labs, though. 👎 I've heard nothing but awesome things about the course.

I am taking:
Immunology (3 hrs)
Business and Professional Communication (3 hrs)
Microbiology + lab (4 hrs)
Legal Environment of Business (3 hrs)
World Civilizations Since 1500 (3 hrs)

I only needed 7 semester hours of biology electives in order to graduate in May, hence Microbiology and Immunology. Everyone at my university stresses about Micro, so we'll see how that turns out. I needed a public speaking requirement for a few schools I applied to, hence the communications course. And then I just wanted to take a few other classes I was interested in, hence World Civ and the business class 🙂

Wow, tons of people are taking microbiology and immunology!

I took advanced Microbiology last semester and loved it, so I hope you guys get some of that. 🙂 It was nice not having to worry about a lab, though - the micro labs seem to be either hit or miss, as do your lab partners.

the micro labs seem to be either hit or miss, as do your lab partners.

My first Micro lab partner thought it would be a good idea to poke the agar "to see what it felt like" before we streaked our first plates... then she spilled the unknown broth culture- while smelling it- and attempted to clean up the mess with her sleeve. 😱

Micro lab was fabulous... starting about two weeks in when she decided the class was "boring" and dropped. 😀

I'm hoping that this quarter will be a little bit of a breather for me after three and a half years of keeping my nose constantly at the grindstone.

-Electricity, Magnetism, and Light (My second physics course that I've been putting off since sophomore year. I haven't been able to fit it into my schedule until now, and it's my last pre-req. Hopefully it's not terribly awful.)
-Equine Facilities, Marketing, and Management (Taking it as an animal science elective. My academic advisor teaches it and she's pretty cool so it should be fun.)
-Internship In Animal Science (I did the internship this past summer and should have done this in the fall but I couldn't fit it in because I had too many credit hours. This class doesn't actually meet but I have to present my internship to my advisor and write a paper.)
-Principles of Genetic Improvement (Not really looking forward to this one, but I am taking it with a friend so it shouldn't be too terrible. It's required for my Animal Science major.)
-Gender, Sexuality, and Race in Popular Culture (A women's studies class that I have to take as a GEC requirement.)

I'm pretty excited for most of these. I'm really pulling for a 4.0 this quarter!

I have only 17 credits:

Physiology+Lab
O Chem II+Lab
Honors Philosophy (I'm not really sure what to expect with it:shrug:)
Renaissance European History
Spanish II

I wish my school had more science courses that I could take that weren't scheduled at the same time🙄

Bio 1 + Lab
Spanish 2 (honors, half online)
Intro to Anthropology (honors)
Business Calc
Gen Chem 1 (retaking)

Total credits: 17

I'm really not looking forward to calc or chemistry 🙁

Ohh neat thread. 😍 It's so interesting to see what others are enduring.😀

lol I'm kind in the middle of two degrees so I'm all jumbled 😛. I'm currently working on a vet tech degree while working through my pre vet classes. My next semester consists of:

Veterinary Nursing Procedures II
Clinical Pathology I
Animal Anatomy and Physiology II
Pharmacology

I'm so excited.

The Immune System
Current Issues in Vet med
Principles of Dairy Management
Technical Writing
Biostatistics
Ballroom Dancing
Spanish Lit
Orchestra (that i have yet to register for!)

It seems like a lot but with Orchestra it's only 19.5 credits. And much love to those who are taking Micro. I took it last spring and my prof was AWESOME.
