What are you going to buy with your first real Doc paycheck?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Back to things we want to buy with doctor monies.

1) my own oyster farm so I can eat as many bivalves as I want since I now know how to shuck an oyster

Can I buy into this? I like raw oysters. Either that, or I can get a lemon tree grove and we can trade lemons for oysters.

And, I also want a custom license plate, several in fact. Say, like ORTHO, PLASTICS, GEN-SURG, and place them on ****ty car like a Ford Pinto, and then get another few like VERSED; PROPOFOL, GAS, and place them on nicer cars, say my AMG or M5.

The OKZ and FML oyster farm. I'm willing to let you be a partner.

All this oyster talk means that I'm going to peace out of work early and go to oyster happy hour 😀 will post pix so you can drool.

@fancymylotus and @wingedscapula so are you saying that these are then not the good buy that something like the Pigalle Plato in a nude or something? I've been hearing varying reviews of the platformless nudes shown there and would appreciate shared info. Short and poor women with an eye toward buying really great heels one day wonder about these things. I can tailor really well but a fine cobbler I am not. Not even a crappy cobbler.

My thought is that a nude or black Loub would be a really great "hey, you made it and here's your first paycheck that says so!" splurge that would continue to serve beautifully in the office, etc for a lovely long while. I'm sure the rest would involve a very nice steak dinner out with the hubby and our girls, and mortgage and fat loan payments, all while wearing those gorgeous things to console me about the money I'm *not* keeping.

All this said, my real ideal would be a D'Orsay Loub in crazy fun color(s). Possibly with a bit of a platform; see "short" above.

Have you actually tried on the pigalles, so kates, or D'orsays? I have bigger feet (sz 10) and none of those shoes work for me. Loubs are made for people with small feet, especially those 3. and Ive been wearing stilettos since high school. But the platform heels - biancas and daffodils have been perfectly fine for my big feet. I also agree that a nude and a black are the best starters. Nude, especially.

I actually have pretty small feet but have never been anywhere to try them on in person. I live way out in the country. It's gorgeous but fine shoe stores are scarce.

You're right. I froggot to mention this. I have friends with bigger feet than my 37.5's and they find that most non platform loubs aren't doable.

Also I heart the rockstuds even though I know some people don't like the way they look. The straps give you great ankle support and they come in cool colors. I got black..then neon yellow..and then pink. Bc it's spring and I needed another pink shoe right?

We have the FancyMyScapula ScN Forum rule, to which I'll add the application of the Vimes' Boots Theory of Economic Unfairness: you can spend a lot all at once on good shoes that last a decade - but that one installment, while large, is ultimately less expensive over that ten years than buying umpty billion pairs of cheap shoes that give out and require frequent replacement in the same span of time.

Also now I have "You Don't Break Up With A Text Message" stuck in my head.

It could a nice retirement home.

ALso, better than living on the street.

K so i would buy my parents a massive house before I bought one for myself. they already have one of their own so it's probably a non issue but...they deserve way more than I've given them for everything they've done for me

My first purchase(s) will probably be a nice pickup truck and a horse trailer for my wife, as a bribe to let me buy my desired sports car at the time.

Gotta keep the womenz happy.
them womenz are dangerous when given a credit card- I'd be careful if I were youz.

Hey now. I resent that. You men are champs at blowing through money for silly things. Car parts, car accessories, car whatevers, scotch, more scotch, etc etc

I'm speaking from experience. I'm sure there is a strong minority of frugal women out there- I just seldom hear of them. Most live in Kenya or something

Thankfully my wife is cheap. Unless it has to do with horses.

Did someone say horses?

I want a mini horse
A Falabella I think they're called

Her name will be Genevieve and she will be snuggly and run around the house.

I also want a giant rabbit, a herd of Pomeranians, a sugar glider or ten, and I think that's it for now

I hear chupacabras are super warm and cuddly in the winter too.

I am going to start buying organic produce and then start saving for trips around the world. I hope to go on several medical missions trips. I also would really like to become a philanthropist.
Start buying organic and saving money? Talk about a paradox.
Also my main gripe with healthy foods. You want us to eat it but overcharge on the product. No thanks.

I wouldn't call it overcharging , who knew stricter protocols about the treatment and growth of foods would be more expensive

I'd also say that overcharging can't really occur on a product that stays on market

Scotch can be cheap if you drive up to NH where there is no liquor tax

So you married a horse? or did you mean you need a ****** trailer because you married a *****?

I've thought about this long and hard and I've thought back to what my first splurge purchase was. I've made more since, of course, including a couple spectacularly bad investments into a high end luxo box and sports car. Both gone at great loss. That will not repeat. I may get nice rides, but more sensible and with an eye for 10+ years of ownership.
The timing for me was different as I had a full scholarship and stipend and had money to spare. I bought this in my second year of medical school, and I still have it.

I also bought a fancy Swiss watch 3rd year from a classmate that sold it to me for 30¢ on the dollar, the same rate offered in trade by the jeweler when he was interested in getting something else. I won't post it as I still wear it and it is unusual, and I'm the only person that I know that has one.

I heart the LV epi stuff. The regular logo'ed crap makes my head hurt. As in I have exactly one piece of it and it was a gift, and I will never buy anymore.

I think Democrats should increase taxes on everyone...so it can help everyone...
Do you really think "taxing everyone" is going to "help everyone" more than allowing people to keep their hard-earned cash? With the politicians we have in this country? Fuhgeddaboudit.

My car will be 31-32 years old by the time I am an attending. I will buy her shiny new parts. In the interim, many of her parts are no longer made, and so I will have to use scavenged parts. But when I have money again, I intend to pour a healthy pile of it into her. Even if I have to have parts custom machined. Her manifold will gleam again.

Promie you sound like Han Solo.

@jdh71

What did you buy with your first real doc paycheck?

Well if you count my sign on bonus that all went down in my house. But it won't really be paid for until after a total of three years.

My first paycheck mostly went to pay for some of the furniture my wife had picked out. Which doesn't really count.

What *I* bought with my first paycheck though was a black American Giant hoodie.

My anonymity is long since blown, so sure @WildZoo ... here is my darling. Her name is Astrid Stridsvagn, because she is a Swedish tank. I love her.

EDIT: Found a better photo, one that shows her length a little better. Obviously a twin, not my actual car. Here is why I love her so:

Though, it really hurts to see someone doing that to a Volvo.
