What are you going to buy with your first real Doc paycheck?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There is so much I want to reply to on this thread, but I am most confused by the med students here who usually tout such liberal beliefs here on SDN yet have such luxurious aspirations and expect a huge amount of pay. Not the majority of you, but I won't point fingers.
What do you consider a huge amount of pay that the things mentioned in this thread wouldn't cover?

I was joking about fine couture, obviously I would never be able to afford it. But you guys don't think Nanette Lepore dresses and suits are pretty?

I don't like that awkward quirky trying to be cute but mostly not look.

Also my little sister wears Nanette lepore a lot and I don't like her so...yeah

haha yeah I like Nanette. I was going to go with Chanel suit but but I guess I don't drop > 1K on a suit even in my fantasies

Because I'm so classy and awesome, my most favorite covered in salt and snow ugg slippers. Why am I at work on a day I'm not even scheduled to work?!

alright fml you got your wish I'm no longer participating in the forum for the record though I bet your sister really isn't that bad

My sisters like me because I took care of them during their rough times ... I recommend this approach to dealing with siblings.

I'm looking forward to being able to buy full-coverage car insurance... Been rocking liability for 10 years.
Wouldn't you want a new car to put the full-coverage on? Lol I don't think it'd be worth it to put it on a 10 year old car.

Full coverage really isn't that much more. Get some quotes.
Have I mentioned that I LOVE my car? Like I drive to places I don't need to go, or take the long way to work, just to cruise around in her.

Admittedly, she is 24 years old, and a model known for being exceptionally safe and tough to destroy. But comprehensive and collision coverage, with relatively low deductables totally fit in my budget.

The pricing varies by model, year, and even particularities of a specific production run. The 240 that I learned to drive in was cheaper to insure than my current 240, even though it is a year newer. The amount you'd receive if there were a claim also varies, so you have to be pro-active about investigating the terms before you buy.

I would rather wake up an extra 30 mins early to do hair and makeup, and then put on spandex yoga pants and a tshirt and nice looking shooz and go to work that way, than wear a dress. No one can see what I'm wearing bc white coat, anyway

whats the deal with the super tight pants being considered acceptable in hospital? so many chicks walking around with pants that look like they're painted on. no idea thats professional but I see it probably 5 times a day in hospital.

Car insurance is stupid high in Louisiana.

My truck is older than 10 haha

2002 Tundra. They just don't make engines like that anymore. 220k and still purring.

See. That's what I'm talking about.

You don't see a lot of those old Tundras on the market, but it isn't because they aren't still on the road. Just, anyone who has one won't sell it. They last and last. That is why I fell in love with old Volvos. If you can get them in good condition from the early 90s, you can put 500k miles on the engine with just a little care. Or 350k if you abuse the crap out of them. These new cars are built to fail in 5-10 years. (Cue old man grumbling about walking uphill both ways in snow, kids getting off lawn....)

The "deal" is that they don't know they're not professional.

Ha ha...before we switched from VB to XF I had a picture of me doing yoga in Indonesia on my profile page. I didn't think much of it but some users felt the need to comment on my booty.

I could send it to you if you *really* wanted to see it. 😉
Who am I to turn down pics of hot chicks doing yoga

do you really buy that? I understand some people have a pretty poor sense of style, but knowing what is appropriate and inappropriate in a work setting isn't too difficult

I do.

I find that many young women cannot differentiate between "club clothes" and "formal event clothes", professional and casual clothes. Spend a few moments perusing the Pre Allo forum threads on Interview wear and you'll see that some people have no idea.

I wouldn't call it overcharging , who knew stricter protocols about the treatment and growth of foods would be more expensive

I'd also say that overcharging can't really occur on a product that stays on market

Agree to disagree. Only because I know nothing about profit margins with organic foods and don't care to look. So, yeah. I'm just saying I don't see the value.
Scotch can be cheap if you drive up to NH where there is no liquor tax
Scotch is properly valued. There's enough of a range in price that any novice can pick it up.

Are you still going into surgery? Cause I think I am onto a way of inducing anesthesia that may please the vegans/naturalists/anti-vaxxer groups? I call it the "Percussive Method", so essentially you go outside and find a rock the size of your fist...that's all I can reveal for now lest someone steal the idea.

those must be the people that are pissed they don't give you a calculator to do 3 digit addition

HAY

I have lots of ideas. Mostly brilliant ones. Just not brilliant ones when I am not sober. Why did I do that?

I will start with a 9mm carry pistol and an ak 74.

After that revolver, will be a Marlin 1894, which shoots the same round, then maybe a Ruger 10/22, followed by a shotgun (a remington 870?), a semi-auto pistol will be in there as well, I just haven't decided on one yet, and lastly a rifle or two M1 Garand?, maybe a Weatherby, I dunno so many options.

And now you know what most guys feel like after the FancyMyScapula Law has taken hold of a thread.

Ah...I fired a clip from a M1 Garand once. It was a great feeling. Matched only by the feeling I get from playing football in Dodger stadium while eating a warm apple pie with melted Wisconsin cheddar on top.

Why so many guns? Will you even have enough time to shoot them?

wtf is with that flag

It's only six of them. And if you go out to the range you can burn through ammo fast. That's what the 10/22 is for, burning through cheaper ammo so I do go burning through the more expensive stuff.

No gun collection would be complete without one one of these

Whatever knocks em out. I love how a radiologist tried to give his opinion on peds and sedation even though he's never been with peds patient pre op or during.

Also, I prefer limestone

I still think white scrub pants are unprofessional. I literally see what you're wearing underneath. What girls wear at clubs isn't as bad because I'm like "oh, you chose pink panties today. Interesting choice"

Uh... Once you've shot guns, you'll understand.
I would love to have a pistol, rifle, semi auto, shotgun and (even though no one sells them) an auto shotgun. Auto shotgun only because it's literally noob mode for shooting targets.
Having friends in the military means I usually only have to pay for the bullets/shells. But if you look at prices for some of them.... $21/ea makes you more conservative lol
