I haven't taken O-chem I yet, and I'm looking for an o-chem book to learn from.

Would you recommend just using Organic Chemistry I as a Second Language: Translating the Basic Concepts written by David R. Klein?

It can be found here:

And what sections of this book would I have to study?

You can see the table of contents by clicking here:

I recommend this one:

However, just be warned that you will waste a considerable amount of time trying to teach yourself and probably still will not do well. I would recommend taking a ochem class at a community college as an audit. Therefore you don't have to worry about your grade and you still get to learn from a professor and have exams to take.

Also if you go to a large university then you can probably just go and watch all the lectures. I took my ochem class in a lecture hall of over 300 people. You won't get a grade for it, but you will learn a lot more from listening to professor lectures than teaching yourself. Also ask the professor for practice exams because you are studying for the PCAT.

The textbook from your O chem course. And your notes from the class.

Yes, the book by Klein is really good. He breaks alot of things down very nicely. I haven't taken the PCAT yet, but I heard there was nomenclature on the exam and so that book would be a perfect supplement for that part.

Examkrackers had a pretty good OChem review. I actually still have it somewhere, PM if you're interested.

But the best way to study OChem is to take at least the first session class. There is no substitute! (I took my first PCAT in August last year, did horrible...finished Organic 1 in the Fall, retook in January, did great)

Mcmurry organic chemistry 7th edition with solution guide.... ^_^

I concur with inquirer, take Orgo I, I was going to self learn, glad I did not.
