Don't worry, I'm not going to spend my last two months of freedom studying 😎 , but I just want to get an idea for the future. Any recommended resources for IM interns other than UptoDate? And is USMLE World still the best resource for Step 3?

Pocket medicine and a pocket antibiotic guide (the hopkins one is nice but I'm a bit biased. Sanford is decent but not my favorite and kinda hard to use)

How about apps for your phone? I really only used epocrates during med school.

Agree about pocket medicine. Do NOT buy the Wash manual. It's too big.

Sanford is better than Hopkins. Learn to use it. Get the new one each year.

Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia - get the big one, and a new one

You will not need anything more than a question bank come step 3 time - you're doing an IM residency. Plus if the Ob/Gyns and Surgeons can pass step 3 every year, you can know it's simply NOT that hard.

Agree with all the books listed above to keep in your coat for the day-to-day grind.

I keep a Harrison's at home to use as a reference. Granted, most days it just sits there collecting dust but there are times during intern year where you want to read about something in depth (getting assigned presentations to give, reading about a patient's rare disease, etc). UpToDate probably has most of the same information, but sometimes it's nice to have the old school textbook (well written with excellent figures). To me it's been worth the money.

 well that makes me feel better.

UWorld right?

UWorld right?

That's what I used I think. They have a mock-up for the second part of the test, which isn't hard, but if you go through all their cases you'll be solid. Hell, even if you didn't go through all of their cases you'd be solid.

For those of you who like to save pocket space and use a phone, Sanford makes an iphone/ipad app. It's 29.99 just like the book. I think the interface is actually easier to use than the book.

I use Epocrates, I like that it has both drugs and the interaction checker built in. Also they have the updated ACLS guidelines. For some reason the pharmacists at my school all bash epocrates and use Micromedex.

👍Micromedex (big fan)

I haven't used Epocrates in over a year.

For quick diagnostic/therapeutic outlines (with EBM info included) similar to Pocket Medicine, I use the Dynamed app through Skyscape.

I do feel like less of a douche reading my Pocket Med book versus my iPhone in the hospital though...

Going to be a prelim intern. Got pocket medicine, but any other good brief books?

I've heard the Current Clinical Strategies series is great for potential order sets etc. Thoughts?

I know this is a quasi-necro bump, but I have the same question.

I'm going to go with Pocket Medicine, Sanford Guide (I guess), anything else? I think my pharm is weak, will Epocrates get me through 1 prelim year?

What is Current Clinical Strategies?

I think Pocket Medicine, Sanford are all you need really. For pharm apps, I really liked Micromedex and it was free. Now you have to pay for a subscription so I just use Epocrates and that's perfectly fine.
