what car do you drive???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Seen it. Why don't you go look up the specs on the Evo they were using?

Point is...take any evo and mod it a bit, you'll get something as good as the FQ400 EVO...but how much can you modify a lamborghini that's pretty much already maxed out stock....

And note price difference.....85k for the FQ400 EVO (which is still a lot, and you can probably achieve the same specs with half the amount)....but nearly 300k for the Lambo? Sure the lambo's a very nice car.....but I'd pick the Evo. Just my 2 cents.

I didn't mean that all imports were great and all domestics were crap, but dollar for dollar, I'd rather get an import than a domestic car. Here are just a few examples (i'm too lazy to find exact prices but you get my point):

For $30k, I'd rather get a TSX, IS, G35 rather than a mustang GT.
In the $50k range, I'd rather get an M3 than a Corvette.
I agree for the G35 (mad sexy), but a C6 Z06 will take an M3.

Corvettes are fast, but they're cheapily built. M3 is a well constructed, well designed car that doesn't have a plastic bumper.

It's not always about going fast.

I think the FQ400 is more like $120K, and all of the exotics are highly priced. You can buy a Rolex or a Timex, and they both tell the time, but one is a lot nicer and classier. Same goes for houses. Have you ever seen a Murcielago in person? If you have, I don't even understand how you would put the two in the same category.

the Corvette is cheaply built? next you're going to start talking leafsprings. If it's not just about "going fast," why is the Evo even in this discussion?

Did anybody feel this sentiment after watching Who Killed the Electric Car?

Personally, I drive a import I am absolutely in love with. 😍

Exactly, for $85,000 you'd be better off buying an EVO VIII or IX and putting the other $55,000 in mods. I'm thinking 2.3L Stroker, GT42R ball bearing turbo, methanol injection, and run about 30-35psi. Should be good for 800-900awhp, and be completely streetable. Plus it would pull on the lambo around a track and on the straights. The downside is you'll never get the curb appeal of the lambo.

Formulovin - love the Z06 wheels on your car. Any other mods?

Cars are my hobby and my passion. I had a 1996 turbo eclipse that I modified pretty heavily, about 5k into the engine. It made 360/380 on the dyno, it was fast, but I spent more time fixing it than anything else, so I sold it and bought a 2000 civic SI as a temp car. I am now going to purchase a 2001 lexus Is300 and begin modifying that eventually.

almost twice the cost of the car in mods? that thing sounds as streetable as a semi, and I'd rather spend $40K on a C5 TT Z06 and have a car that I could drive past the age of 25. Any minute now, someone will roll in and continue the apples/oranges debate and tell us how his R1 could walk all over any of these.

So I asked a guy who works on Evos about your hypothetical set-up, and he said "you arn't making 900 awhp on 35psi of boost on a 42R with a 2.3 stroker. streetable is iffy, lag to 5500RPM's is not very streetable, and on a 2.3 you cant wind the bitch out to 9K"

Comment to Ecking: hahaha, very true. Mustangs are the ugliest looking cars out there.

Everybody buys those cheap domestic cars (not including corvette or viper), and think they can beat the imports...
yeah, because your Integra will really turn heads after the F430 rolls past

i drive this modest car. nothing too fancy

9477-2007-Porsche-911-Turbo.jpg

BMW Z3 Roadster (1.9) - green/khaki top
Nissan Xterra SE Supercharged - black

Love them both. Been driving the little one a lot more to save on gas, but there is nothing like the X!

I'm comparing them because you were comparing their "engineering and refinement" in your original post. You may be right that the lambo is more refined, but you can't say an EVO has no engineering when it can beat a Lambo.

EVO FQ400 Pros:
Can beat a Lambo
Still practical (can seat 5 ppl comfortably)
Still have room for cargo
$85K http://www.rsportscars.com/eng/cars/lancer_fq400.asp

EVO FQ400 CONS
No Bling Bling (Could up the bling bling factor by giving it distasteful 20" chrome rims)

Lambo Murcielago Pros:
Bling Bling

Lambo Murcielago Cons
Can be beaten by an Evo
No room whatsoever
Can't really qualify for luxurious....ever sit inside one?? Not comfortable
$300k http://autos.yahoo.com/lamborghini_murcielago/

IT's not really comparing apples and oranges since they would both be "Sports cars". And the logic with the watches and house isn't so accurate since a rolex and an expensive big house can retain value. Cars generally don't. You'll never find a used Lambo more expensive than if it's new.

Done with the pissing match....

Where on my AMCAS do I put what car I drive? 🙄

2001 Indigo Pontiac Sunfire... any j-body love on SDN? 👍

hhahaha i went over to a friends house yesterday to go watch harry potter. there was a freaking Porche gt3 rs parked in his dam garage. Some IM doctor, (yes an IM doctor has enough money to buy a 350,000 dollar car! 😱). It was single handly the most amazing car i got that close to and got a ride in.

And i drive the modest 2007 Toyota Camry. Bought in th end of august and it already has 22,000 miles on it.

Indeed, and this is why bikes > cars.

TSX vs. Mustang GT? They may be in the same price range, but they are not vehicles that are compared when shopping. You are comparing a FWD, 4-cylinder TSX (Euro Accord) and a RWD, V8 Coupe. So you prefer boring, middle-aged housewife cars to cars built for speed? Well, we certainly have different tastes in cars.

And I'd definitely take the C6 over the M3; have you drive either of 'em? I got to drive the C6 on a track, and it was real fun. The M3 was fast, sounded cool, but it wasn't worth the price tag. Vette sounded cooler, and can compete with way more expensive cars on the track.

Of course, for the price, nothing beats and Evo or a WRX STi. Except bikes.

Why not shoot for looks, comfort, and safety? I doubt any of you guys will make any money on the track so whats the point of beating the hell out of your car for nothing? Fun? Have fun footing out the bill for tires, wheel bearings, and other stress related expenses. Not to mention you're just depreciating the value of the car.
So performance wise: you cant speed in the city... if you speed on the highway you'll just get fines or risk your life. Its just not worth it. Like I said, its probably a better investment to shoot for an upscale grocery getter unless you're into the Fast and the Furious or plan to race on Pinks...

I am not saying that integra's and otehr imports are the fastest cars out there...but they have some very good qualities:

good gas mileage
very reliable
Excellent engineering
good styling
good on turns

And did I mention they don't cost $50,000. I know a viper is fast and so is corvette and yes they can beat a GSR or type R...but everybody doesn't have that kind of money. For Price integra GSR and type R are the best buy for you dollar.

When I become a physician, I'll probably buy an EVO😀.

'99 Acura TL. Love it. It cost as much as a Civic with just as many miles, but with a much better sound system, CD changer, heated power leather seats, etc. Got my EMS plates and all, as I hear they protect you from getting as many tickets. 😀

Very excellent car. I remember the first time I got into one. I thought it'd be a small tuner-like car with crap space, but it's so comfortable and spacious in that car. The sleek look doesn't hurt either. hah.

tite car, I own an Acura myself, GSR that is. 😀

Of course it's incredibly stupid to speed, but I'll admit I do it on a daily basis. Can't be late for.... all the nothing that I do.

Plus, this whole thread has been one big speed pissing contest; so coming in here and saying speed is an irrelevant means to compare these cars goes against everything this thread truly was started for.

Oh yeah, and there's no way anyone can convince me a TSX looks better than the Mustang. Out of the group mentioned before (TSX/IS/Stand/G), I give that title to the IS.

Not my camaro, but I have the same one in red. In good condition too.

Normally drive a Mazda 3 S though.

Awesome.

I've always told myself if I ever waste money on a decent car, it'll be a totally impractical Cobra kit car.

LOL I feel guilty though. I have such a bad a$$ car, but I don't know anything about cars. I inherited the car from an uncle who was a gear head after he died. All I know how to do with the car is drive it. My dad is the one who maintains it because he knows way more than I do about cars.

wow, i come back to this thread after some margaritas and all of the sudden it has gone to ****. lol. anyone into sports cars that will be at UTMB this year?

Did you make those margaritas? That reminds me, I need to go out and buy some alcohol

chimy's margaritas, what a coincidence the margaritas i was drinking were called "ferrarri" and they were the best kind. no type R margaritas though

That was one UGLY looking camaro. I hate the shape and styling of these 20 year old so called "muscle cars". They're outdated, go buy a new car.

Does anyone on this thread own an INTEGRA??

r u kidding me? lol. u dont need to talk trash about other people cars man. thats uncalled for. and that "oudated car" will eat alot of cars on the streets. plus its a classic. those things cost well over 40 grand for a new rebuilt car. dont be such a ricer man., there is no need to diss other cars. people like u make the rest of us asians look bad. u piece of sh17

Lol. You're gonna get bashed for this...

While I don't care for the camaro, everyone has their own tastes so I'm not gonna argue with someone if they think another car looks better.

Last week I drove a 93 Volvo 850 GLT which I affectionately named the Waning Gibbous. My baby was stolen while on a pizza delivery...I'll miss her. 🙁🙁🙁

Now me and my bro share a 85 Porsche 944. Fun car but not really the kind you wanna be driving on a day to day basis.

ymncheetos: Whats the story? Left it running as you went in with the pizza and ended up walking home?

I was just joking about the whole car looking ugly thing. People have different tastes and I have to respect them. I just expressed my opinion, because I see so many replica's of those cars on the road.

Don't tell me you guys get offended by me talking bad about your cars !!!😎
btw, i started this thread.

🙄 It's still a good analogy, and you're using the phrase "sports car" quite liberally here. An Evo is a sedan that looks suited for a 20-year old with that wing and FMIC.

No, I seriously doubt you did. No one would bother building a Camaro kit car, because getting your hands on an old Camaro frame and doing a resto would be cheaper than trying to find a decent looking it. Strike 1.

People weren't offended as much as stupified by your ridiculous comments. It's pretty obvious you've never driven anything other than your 93 GSR. Your car is not fast. Go ahead, tell me about that sweet eBay intake you bought, the exhaust tip from pepboys with the fake little burn marks around the edges, the aerodynamic "aluminum wing," your carbon fiber dash, and Old English lettering that says "ACURA," on your back window (which has the C half cratched off). Liking one type of car is one thing, bashing ones you know NOTHING about is another. Are you in high school or something?

BTW, no one cares if you started the thread; you don't own it.👍

ymncheetos: Whats the story? Left it running as you went in with the pizza and ended up walking home?

lol yeah I let my bro borrow my car and he did just that. I guess thats more common than I thought.
I guess working one of the most dangerous jobs in Detroit isn't a great idea.

Haha, Detroit... hey, at least you haven't been shot!

I borrow my parents' cars but I dont have a car of my own. Looking into owning a motorcycle though.

Camaro SS, Mustang Cobra, Corvette Z06, 350Z, Supra, 300zx, and RX-7 are my awesome cars. My favorite car has to be the Mercedes C55 AMG.

I'm not so much into the Sti and Evos. I mean they are speed demons and all but they just look too much like toy cars. I mean you couldn't imagine a doctor stepping out of one of those. No offence to any sti and evo owners, its just that they aren't my cup of tea.

Integras should not be in this discussion at all. Slow ass FWD with lawn mower engines need to get out of here.

Good luck with that. Take the motorcycle safety course if you do decide to go this route.

i can't believe that you leave out the other twin turbo import.. the vr4. if you like the supra, 300ZX, and rx-7 then i don't see how you can leave the vr4 out of the mix. and if you do, you need to ride in a slightly modded one. i'm sure it would change your mind.

Yea the vr4 is badass too. There are a lot of nice cars, but those were the cars I could think about off the top of my head. I never actually been in one though.
