Economics I -- Macro
PreCal I
Chemistry I w/ Lab
Anat/Phys I w/ Lab
Intro to Sociology
----------------------
17 hours

I should also be putting in 10-15 hours a week volunteering at a local retail pharmacy (already in progress) and a hospital pharmacy (orientation next week).

Is this challenging enough? I know I should probably have a 3rd science class but b/c of the order of things there aren't really any other science classes I can take. I've already taken Biol I & II this past summer.

I will be applying in Fall 2010.

I'm taking:

Microbiology
Orgo I w/ lab
Pre-Calc
Philosophy

This is pretty similar to my schedule:

Microbiology
Orgo I w/ lab
Pre-Calc
Health (random required elective)

Also going to be working 20 hours a week and volunteering 4-8 hours.

Hey, I am new here.

Fall Semester:

Bio I with Lab
O Chem with Lab
Physics
Micro lab
A/P I with Lab

I think I misunderstood. Do you intend to start pharmacy school in Fall of 2010?

I'm pretty sure that's a good course load.

I'm applying in Fall of 2010...which means I would be aiming to start in Fall of 2011 (depending on where I get accepted).

Biochemistry w/ Lab
Microeconomics
Genetics w/ Lab
Toxicology w/ Lab
Beginning Tennis
Beginning Golf

17 hours

oh how I love being a senior and trying to graduate on time

I will be taking:

O-Chem I w/ lab
Biology I w/ lab
Medical Terminology (kind of a filler. lol)

Only 10 credits, but I will be working 35-ish hours, plus I have the PCAT in October. O-Chem & Bio are also the only pre-reqs I have left, other than speech, which I'm dreading. Everything I wanted to take as an elective (i.e. clinical pharmacology or pathophysiology) conflicted w/ O-Chem. That's my luck for ya. 🙄

starting off slow...

general chem I w/ lab
pre-cal

working 34 hours or so + planning on volunteering at the hospital pharmacy

Human anatomy w/ lab
O. chem I w/ lab
Env. Toxicology
Genetics w/ Lab
Scientific readings and writings
----------
...at least all my classes are in the same building..

Hey you guys I am new here. My classes this semester are all over the place. I am taking the following classes. Please tell me if this is a good mix.
Chem I
Bio II
PhysicsII w/ Lab
Life Science Pre-Cal

I will also be working 40 hours a week and voluteering with a non-profit org. Still working on the Pharmacy shadowing

Do you absolutely need to take Physics II as a requirement into the Pharm. school of your choice? If not, then I would switch that with a Gen. Ed class.

Having three science classes on TOP of a 40 hour workweek/volunteering is going to be one big beast to conquer.

Do you absolutely need to work 40 hours? If not, I would STRONGLY suggest cutting that down to 20 and focus more on volunteering/job shadowing. If you do need to work full-time, I would suggest taking physics II in the spring and fill that in with an elective say fine arts.

Trust me, hearing from people on this site, you not only want to get good grades in your science courses but also fully understand the material so when the PCAT comes around, you'll know what to do.

Just me 2 cents. 🙂

I will be taking Chemistry 14A, Psych 10 and retaking a math course. 12 units total, as well as working for the first time during the actual school year. I'm actually excited

Reading all of theses classes makes me feel like I'm missing out! We just have the basic bio upper div's at my school like micro, A and P, molecular, genetics, and ecology. Environmental toxicology sounds awesome!

What school are you at? I thought all the CSUs and UCs had e-Tox!
I'm at a CSUSB (not Santa Barbara) We have virology and immunology, but no so called e-tox 😡 I know for sure immunology isn't being taught next year too, not sure about virology though
O well, its probably for teh good, its probably a pretty tough class

They won't let me register until I attend "orientation."
I figure it will look like this...
Chem 1
Random Class
Random Class
Random Class
Random Class

Well folks, another Fall semester is upon us. How many of you are applying to pharm school this next cycle? What classes are you taking in the meanwhile?

I'll start:

Microbiology
Statistics
Macro-economics
Government I
World Literature

Notice the lack of O-chem? It was totally worth getting both semesters knocked out over the summer. It was like getting a root canal, but it's finally over. 😀
Pre-Calc
Bio I
Chem I

Economics
Biology
Atmosphere Science

Between work and my other courses, I didn't have room for Econ, so I took it online. Big mistake!

The professor died and the course was dumped into someone else's lap before the semester started. This person cut and paste their name onto the syllabus and that's about it. We have a few homework assignments, discussions, etc to do, but no prompt or guide on what's expected.

Orgo isn't that bad if you love science. I personally loved it, so you may not have a problem at all. I took Orgo II over the summer and it wasn't overwhelming. If you go to class and do the practice problems I sort of think it's easier because you aren't stretching it out over a whole semester and worrying about 4-5 other classes at the same time.

Oh yeah, and I HATED general chemistry, so don't let that scare you... Orgo seemed to be more relevant to me, but then again it's just personal preference.

I am going to take:

Cell bio
Human anat & physio
Intro Microbio
Integral Calc
Physics

I am taking biochem and orgo in next summer after getting accepted to PC ( hopefully 🙂 )

So you are taking 5 courses + full time work + volunteer?

WOW

I'm just a little confuse about the physics classes. My school offers calc based physics and introductory physics. Some people say that all you really need is the intro physics and that should fulfill the physics requirement. So, which one should I be taking???

I'm taking...
Organic Chemistry + lab
Ecological Principles + lab
Theology of Creation (I'm excited for this one...)
Swim Fitness
and New Forces of Secular (religion/writing/history class)

I would check with the AdCom for your intended Pharm. School. Curriculum varies vastly from school to school and some schools require that you take the calc-based physics, some require the intro physics and some don't specify so you could take either.

Thanks for your advice. I've notice that some school speicfy 'physics for science majors,' which I take to mean calc-based physics and others list say 'general physics' which I assume is intro to physics and others just dont' specify. My physics teacher told me the same thing and he also told me to check if they require just one semester or a full year.

Finally got classes sorted out:
Psychology 1
Chemistry 1 - with lab
Econ 1
Wildlife and People (Bio 100 level)

15 credits of awesomeness.

Classes for Fall
-Chemistry 1+Lab
-Biology 1+Lab
-Calculus w/ Analytical Geometry
-and 2 freshmen only classes
total of 17 credit hours

Is this too big of a load for a freshmen student?

i'll be a freshman this upcoming fall ^^. the classes i'll be taking are:

-Principles of Biology I w/ lab
-General Chemisty I w/ lab
-Ethics
-Principles of Microeconomics
-Intro. to Short Story (as a Gen Ed req)

total credit hours: 17

i was also thinking about doing some volunteering/shadowing as well, but we'll see ^^

That's not too hard of a course selection, though you'll have to stay focused. Bio, Chem, and Calc are all courses you'll need A's in.

You need A's in every course, but this is like your welcome package for being a pre-pharm!

Best of luck and welcome. :luck:

Organic Chem I (w/ lab)

From what I have seen, if you take a physics course in college as a pre-req then they require at least 1 semester or a full year of high school physics (i.e if you are doing general physics instead of calc-based physics).

Okay, yeah I started classes the other day and it doesn’t seem that bad. I feel the classes are spread out really well so I have plenty of studying time.

Thanks, for your help!

And Lord knows, doing those 3 courses in 1 semester....you may need that study time (I guess it depends on whether these will be part I's or II's). Unless, you are just naturally smart like that.

My schedule just got exponetially more difficult

This fall I'm taking

-microbiology
-biology 1B
-organic chemistry A
-statistics

Two words

anatomy and physiology

My decision not to take the sequence greatly limits the schools I'm eligible to apply to.
