I currently have the option to reschedule my MCAT exam to either Oct. 21 or Nov. 7th and I can't decide! Can anyone give me some input on what date would be better taking into consideration the fact that it will be during the school year?

Also, when do scores usually come out?

I would really appreciate any help! =)

Take it when you are ready to - no one can know that other than you. Just make sure that when you take it, you are 100% ready to take it. Trust me, you don't want to have to retake. Also, regardless of when fall break is, you will be studying for weeks/months, so even if you get a small break it won't matter too much. Scores come out roughly 30 days after you take the exam.

Good luck 🙂

Thank you for your reply. I just found out that I don't even have a fall break =/
But my midterm grades are due by Oct. 17th, so I'm guessing that there won't be many exams during the Oct. 21st period...

Probably not, but it's always hard to tell unless you have a syllabus in front of you. As long as you use good time management any date you choose should be okay. 🙂

Okay, so it is possible to do well (35+) if I take the MCAT during the school year? Everyone keeps saying I'll get like a 29-30 because I am not taking it during the summer. But right now, I have no choice 🙁

Absolutely no one will know how you will do but you and how your practice exams go under similar conditions. I was an MCAT re-taker, and I did the best when I was working full time than when I studied during the summer working only 20 hours. It's how you manage your time and what kind of test taker you are. Also, your idea of "doing well" is very skewed.

Okay, so I guess there is no "good time" to take it and it varies btwn. individuals...

What do you mean?

If you think a 29-30 isn't good then you are wrong. A 35+ is fantastic, and is well above average. I had a 28-31 MCAT and I got into 7 MD schools. MCAT isn't everything (and there is no good time to take it other than the time where you feel well prepared).

so you are either taking the MCAT late for this cycle or early for the next cycle... so which one is it?

Wait really?! I had no idea an applicant could get into 7 MD schools with an MCAT score in the low 30s…guess SDN perfection is really getting to me 🤔

Edit: Wait…I just realized you're a TX resident. Of course, it's easier then! But as an out-of-state student, I don't think a 31 or even a 34 would help me much. Unfortunately, I live in a pretty bad state as well.

You are so right. I forgot how easy it was to get into medical school.

a 30 is at the 10th percentile or greater for 19 US med schools.

why are you taking it so early? do you have all of your pre reqs done for the mcat? why not wait until a winter break date? or are you trying to get it in before mcat 2015?

I never said it was easy. I just think it's a bit more easier for TX residents compared to a student that lives in say, Arkansas.

Yeah, I'm mainly taking it so that I don't have to worry about the new MCAT…but I'm also done with pre-reqs so I figured it's better to study for the mcat when these concepts are all still fresh in my mind.
