I took the august mcat and I am going to have to retake I got below a 30. I wanted to know how retakers that did better their second time around studied differently. I would be pretty confident that I could get above a 30 this next time but the only thing that scares me is this CBT stuff.

Hey, I went from a 29Q in 2001 to 36Q this August, with the biggest difference in the number of practice (full-length, timed) tests I did. I took the Kaplan course, but found that the practice exams were the most valuable of all...

Cheers!

This time around I spent more time reading and understanding concepts from my text books after I had memorized all the formulae in the review book. I went back to the text after reading the review book.

A good understanding of the concepts helped; but so did remembering things right when I needed them during the exam.

Good Luck with the test.

I took the April 06 one after doing all the EK books, audio osmosis, but only 3 full-lengths (only two all at once) - I got a 27N. I re-read through all of the EK stuff once more thoroughly and took notes just like the first time around, however I got EK verbal 101 this time because i got a 7 in VR on the April. I did every single EK verbal and every AAMC full-length under timed conditions for August and i got a 32N.

took a lot of practice tests. like the last 20 days, i probably took 12 tests and went over them thoroughly.

also, i used EK instead of TPR's review materials. they're way more condensed and only give you what you need to know.

and also i just felt more confident and prepared going into it. that helps!

EK all the way. EK 1001 physics questions i did all 1001 and all the physics kaplan questions = raised my score from 9 to 11. Biological sciences, i read the books and then read a physio textbook raised from 10 to 12. i also did 12 practice tests this time versus 5 the first time and i did kaplan qbank questions and practice sections everyday. what i did differently tho that helped most is that i took an mcat like section every other day ie i divided my practice tests into sections each day and stuck to the time limits that way i zoned in on subjects at a time. unfortunately, i got cockyand did like only 3 verbal tests so my score tanked although i thought i did well.

Went from a 33R to a 39Q from April to August this year. I honestly think a huge part of it was just being more relaxed going into the test, although the fact that I forgot to bubble a lot of questions in on the April test had something to do with the lower than expected score. I didn't do any full lengths between the two - I did do some full length sections, though, and reviewed the subjects I was weaker on.

25N (9v,9p,7b) to 32O (10v,11p,11b)
Took AAMC 5R, 8, and 9 (only the physical and biological.)

Bio:
Bought Examkrackers Bio book and read cover to cover. Did about 6 of the 16 mini MCATs from EK. Wrote out all organic reactions and major rules from Kaplan biological book on notebook paper.

Physical:
Again, the 16 mini MCAT books from EK were helpful to me. I did all problems, made corrections, then wrote out formulas. Basically, I memorized all formulas for physics flashcard well. Made corrections to gen chem problems. Didn't study much for gen chem though.

Verbal:
I read "Under the Banner of Heaven" by John Krakauer and took Intermediate Microeconomics in summer school.
