What do Adcoms really want to hear in a interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

a lot of things, different schools have different things, but also they really want to see if you're interested in their school

Adcoms are often looking for a wide range of things, but mostly they want to check that you have a pulse, can engage in meaningful conversation, and level-headed enough to deal with the rigors of dental school. Some interviews are really laid-back while others are more along the lines of Jerry Bruckheimer-esque cross examination.

If you get the interview invite, they're satisfied with your CV. The interview is your one 30-minute chance at showing them the *person* behind the numbers. Don't waste it reciting your AADSAS.

Here's what one interviewer told me straight-out. He said he looks for three things in an applicant:

1. Whether you have the motivation to get through the program

2. Whether you have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in dental school

3. Whether you know what you're getting into

Granted, that's just one interviewer, but those seem like good criteria to me. Demonstrate these 3 things by what you say & how you present yourself and you'll probably do great.

...And don't get stressed if your interview doesn't go absolutely wonderfully. One of mine was a little uncomfortable... it was for the school I'm attending now, and I do not regret my decision at all! 😀

I totally agree w/this post. Most schools really wanted to know WHY I would pick their program over others. Good luck out there!!!
