hey guys,

i have recently applied to dental school (for fall 2006). I have a very solid dat score, and a very high gpa at the moment. however, when applying, i was overly-optimistic that i could finish off my bachelors in bio in the year i have left. i have taken a very heavy course load, and now realize it may be a stretch to finish off in a year.

i just need some advice on what to do, and fellow sdner's have always helped out. should i just get school over with and somehow finish in a year? (my current gpa is 4.0, so even if it falls it wont be too bad), or should i try to maintain my gpa and put off dental school? i know it is sort of a personal decision, but i just needed some outside input on the issue. also, if i do decide to postpone dental school, what is the process since i have already applied and had my lor's and transcripts and everything sent in?

thanks so much for the help. 🙂 😎

You seem a perfectionist (cuz of your 4.0) and also very ambitious. You have already went through the hassle of applying. You didn't say how busy your schedule going to be. Try to put the harder work-load in spring, when hopefully you have already got your acceptance letters. Make fall schedule moderate cuz u need to go to interviews. Try not to leave any classes for summer. If you do make sure, at least you have a month off b/f dental school. As you mentioned it is a personal choice.
Good luck!

If I were in your position, I would go ahead and do everything I could to gain admittance for Fall 2006. Like you said, even if you just pulled 3.0's, your GPA won't suffer. With your GPA and High DAT scores its almost a sure thing you will get in this year. If that's the case, why prolong Dental school a year?

Vicking,

do you have everything else in line, LORs, dental service etccc. Do any of the schools allow you the option of not completing a degree? If not, work on getting your stuff done this year and enjoy the benefits of it by working another hard 4 years in dental school.

good luck

quick, question, are there anypeople that have graduated in three years then gone to dental school? if so, do you have any regrets??

Just shut it already. People like you make me sick. You have a 4.0 and you are complaining! You should see a psychiatrist because you are absolutely neurotic.

I agree. vikings022000, please shut it. 😀 You will be just fine. Just finish everything this year.

You don't have to finish your degree for acceptance, so I wouldn't stress about it too much. I don't think completing your degree is important enough to put off dental school for a year. I'm not on an admissions committee so I don't know if this would play a role in your acceptance, but I don't think it would. Like everyone else said though, I would take an easy load for Fall b/c of secondaries & interviews. To comment on what was mentioned above, it's really not that difficult to graduate in 3 years if you come in w/ AP credits & take summer classes.

i would normally say to take a year off, but since you already applied, no sense in wasting your money.
