What do med students do on weekends?
Started by radioactive15
For the next 4 months I will be working one weekend day (internal med, then surgery). The other day is spent studying and getting done whatever errands need to get done.
Pre-clinical - usually studying >3 hours, hanging out with people depending on what was going on. If you take 2 days off, you fall behind. Weekends are great for catch up. But I did extracurricular stuff 2+ days during the week so I needed the weekend for catch up time.

Crack and hookers.
....and, you know, movies and brunch and whatever else. Enjoy preclinical weekends while you have them.

Depends on if there is a test on Monday. My school likes to do that for all of first year and the first half of second year. If so, I spent it studying for the test with a few hours taken off for football watching, visiting the gym and relaxing. Exams were schedule every other week as a first year and every week as a second year. That means no free weekends as a second year. If I didn't have a test during first year then I spent my weekend relaxing and making up for neglecting the wife. I did whatever she wanted to do, along with making dinner and doing a bunch of housework....usually while not including exam weeks
is the notion of studying for most of normal weekends true or false?Do they do similar to what they did in undergrad and relax?
Now that step one is coming up in six months, my school has switched our tests to be on Fridays. That gives me more time to relax in the mornings with step one studying time in the evening. Of course there is also some football watching, but now I limit myself to only watching the Seahawks play instead of watching multiple games.
Undergrad was much easier and consisted of going to bars and relaxing most of the weekend. I did most of my studying during the week. As a medical student, there just isn't the time to get everything done during the week and still be rested.
Aside from post-test weekends, studying is a part of every weekend. Not necessarily the entire day, it may just be a few hours each day, but if you don't do anything you're probably going to fall behind. With that said, it also really depends on what kind of performance you're shooting for. If you're cool with just passing, you can probably afford to take a lot more weekends off.
I study about 4-5 hours a day, spend the rest of the weekend either with my gf or driving the three hour haul back to school.
Study, laundry, visit the outside world and talk to real people.
When people say they study 4-5 hours/day or 45 hrs/week, does that include class time?

I study for maybe 2-3 hours over the weekend and have been able to keep up pretty well. If in extremely behind, I'll study a little more, but I generally like to take weekends lightly and take the time to catch up with friends and sleep... And drinks.

For myself, no. That's time when I'm hitting the books. Lectures are optional though, so I don't really have a lot of class time, per se. I can condense all of the week's worthwhile lectures into about 3.5 hours at double speed. When people say they study 4-5 hours/day or 45 hrs/week, does that include class time?

How much do you study during the week?
Maybe like 3-5 hours. I'm kind of a bad example though...How much do you study during the week?
I'll study maybe 3 - 5 hours each day. Usually cut it off around the afternoon, then run errands (groceries, laundry, etc.) and cook food for the week. Watch TV, drink/go out, hang out, etc.
Weekends were great. 3 Days of sports, tv, and drinking. Lots of drinking.
If it was the week of a test or there was something graded Monday, then I would typically put in a few hours on Friday midday and then Sunday early morning.
