Okay here is the situation, I want to apply for dental schools in the northeast region I would consider other schools as well but i would really like to stay in the northeast. I am an undergrad student at stony brook with a 3.3 gpa, 5 and half yrs dental experience, 6 months in a dental lab, and i just took my dat's and things didn't go too well i got a 16 overall. I know that score is not good enough and i have to take it again. I am planning on taking it in 3 months from now. My question is will i still be able to apply for the class of 2005? And what score on the dats do i need to get in, given my situation. thanks a lot

december is late..but it can still be done. get a 20 academic average and ur all set. try to keep each section at 18 or over. good luck

It may be a bit expensive, but apply anyway and take the DAT in December. If you get 17-19 I would focus on NYU, SUNY buffalo, UPitt, and maybe Tufts and BU. If you get 19-21, apply to Tufts, UMDNJ, Stony Brook, or Temple. It is harder to get in when you apply late, and it would take a great amount of work to raise a 16 to a 19 or 20.

I would set your primary focus on NYU. Schools with a big class size also seem to be a little more delayed with their admissions process than smaller schools.

Add UDM to your list. I recently spoke to a 2003 grad who, after completing her GPR at Harvard, commented: "Hands down, the clinical training I received at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry surpasses that of my colleagues who graduated from some very prestigious east coast schools. More than 65% of my graduating class went directly into practice (no need for the additional GPR experience)!"

....just a thought.....
