Ok so I'm tired of trying to give myself an identity at this point. I'm like HI I'm dr.bob I'm an..well

I'm not a medical student..I'm not premed. I'm not going to school..

I think us future professionals need to establish a word for this sensitive yet important moment of our lives

What do we call ourselves for the laymen?

For the love of God, don't say "M0"

I don't see why we need to have a title? I haven't had any problems.

Hi, I'm doctorbob. <---period (.)

If there is a follow up question, no I'm not a _ _ _ _ _ , Im actually starting medical school this fall, but just working/scribing/shadowing/vacation/doing research/whatever for now.

I haven't had any problems either. But I feel like everyone knows what a premed is and what a medical student is but people's brains fog in between

I don't think people's brain fog about "I'm starting school in 5/6 months." It's pretty self-explanatory.

But hey, if you need a title, do you.

Agreed. You know, you don't need to be defined by your educational status. If someone asks you:

I'm doing ________ until I start medical school in the fall.

This isn't hard, and certainly not a point to stress over. Feel free to use MS -1 though.

I'm trying to think of an instance when you would actually introduce yourself like that. Do you not just say, "Hi, I'm drbob. Nice to meet you."? Who actually gives their name and a title in normal conversation?

Pretty sure he was intending a lil humorous spin on things. Lighten up.

I second the medical school elect!

You haven't earned a title yet....just wait, you'll have plenty of time to put expensive letters before and after your name in life
Bro, why are we awake?

Edit: for real though, it's 3:43 am in VA right now. I need to get my life together. SDNing at this hour is ridiculous...

Edit 2: @LutGholein I see you liking my post at 3:49 am est. 😎

Because Redbull came to the hospital today and were like: hey we need to offload about a flat of Redbull.

Let's just do the linkedin thing: incoming medical student

Lol this is too true. Not only is that place a dick measuring contest to begin with, but then you top it off with that... ego inflation for dayzzzz.

As for the original post, you don't need a title. This is silly. But, if you're really itching to call yourself a medical student, then wait until the wcc I suppose.

I think it's fairly simple--you're still pre-med. You literally fit the definition. You're accepted, but you haven't started medical school yet. Just introduce yourself as "Dr. Bob," and if they ask what you do, you say "I'm starting medical school this fall." It does feel good to tell people you got into medical school, but I never brought it up unless someone specifically asked what I was studying/plans for the fall/etc

Don't be "that guy" who introduces themselves as MS0, "medical student (accepted)" (it should be pre-med-accepted, as you don't become a medical student till you start medical school...). Med student elect sounds kind of baller though.

Titles really are silly most of the time--they really only have a place at work (when relevant) and in politics/military/religion. Or if you're a duke.

Medical Student (Accepted)

I've said this to be met with a blank stare..am I the only one?

Medical Student (accepted) is a silly title that the SDN mods had to create to stop the deluge of posters who felt the need to update their status from pre-med to med student the moment they got accepted.

No I didn't..bummer because it's my top pick. Where did u end up at?
DoctorBob that's incredible that you are sitting on 18 acceptances. Congratulations!Have you figured out where you want to go yet, that must be a tough one lol.

Is that really a thing

Not that I know, thankfully, but I think it's in the bounds of possibilities. My very first experience as a college students during the first 5 minutes of freshman orientation was another student telling me they were going to go to Hopkins med and become a Pediatric Neurosurgeon.

Haha my suite mate freshman year told me he was going to be a "brain surgeon" or an investment banker as a backup plan. I think he does sales now or something.

I'm really confused how this would ever come up. If you introduce yourself like a normal person, you'd just say, "Hi, I'm drbob."

If they ask what you do or what you're up to, you say, "Oh, I just graduated from college and start medical school in the fall."

How is this hard?

Hey man that title was a big reason I applied to medical school in the first place.

At every social event:
"Hi I'm drbob, I've been accepted to medical school and got a 35 on my mcat. What's your name?"

Yeah that's basically what I'm picturing. I just don't get hitching your whole identity on your med student status. If someone asked me to describe myself, applying to med school wouldn't be the first, second, or probably even third thing I mention.

Call yourself "Professional Fun-haver" for the next 6 months - live it up!
