I once heard an internal medicine doctor refer to opthamologists as "eye-dentists".

If you're referring to RP's comment, he meant ophthamologists b/c they treat diseases of the eye the way dentists treat diseases of the oral cavity, whereas optometrists prescribe lens to correct vision (not the same as treating disease).

No no.......I still believe that I am correct here. Optometrists work with the eyes but dont go to med school, they go to optometry school for 4 years. Dentists work on another part of the body without going to med school, they go to dental school for 4 years. For those who agree with me, say "I" (no pun intended).
