Well i am in my senior year of high school and am about to start my applications. Here is my list of schools i want to apply to as an undergrad, mostly of course CSU's, they are in no particular order. Yes i do live in california. Any suggestions? Things to know? I am thinking of maybe applying as undecided, but considering physics or bio.

1 California state university northridge
2 Cal poly san luis obispo
3 Cal poly pomona
4 San Diego State University
5 San francisco state university
6 University California Riverside
7 University California Santa Cruz

come to ucla! 😉 haha jp. i think where you decide to go should be solely dependent on where you'll see yourself most happy the next four years. undergrad is about getting good grades, but having the best time of your life! don't go somewhere you wont be happy, b/c it could reflect on your grades as well. balance fun/school/life = well rounded applicant.

I dont know much about CA school bc I live in Texas, but go where you think you can suceed and make the best grades and be happy. Thats what will matter in the long run.

school can be pretty rough some times, but there's always fun to look forward to or things to do. if you're a homebody type, then of course stay near home. but it's nice to be independent and have change in your life. sdsu sounds like it might be too much fun tho haha. hot girls though! there's always going to be all nighters and crazy stressful quarter/semesters, but that's normal. i haven't had any nightmares here so far, and i personally love it. hopefully you'll end up somewhere where you'll feel the same.

on a side note, it does matter where you go for undergrad to the adcoms. so of course, still aim to go to the best college you can go to and be happy there. b/c dschools do look at where you went, and the rigor of your schedule.

When I was in undergrad at UC San Diego, I know SD State had a very good pre-dental program, giving their students lots of exposure to the field and getting a lot of them into d-school. Us UC students at the time were a bit jealous (although our program vastly improved over the years).

i would highly advise going to a UC school. just my opinion.

Go to a CSU... out of your list I would recommend CSUN. Most D-schools don't care where you did your undergrad, they just want to see a good GPA. Save some money go to CSUN... a friend of mine goes there, he says there are loads of good looking people there...😉

I would second this. I've heard straight from an admissions director (another CA school other than mine) that students coming out of UC's are generally more desirable applicants than those from CSU's.

However, an awesome GPA and DAT score from anywhere will get you in.

Don't come to Cal and choose bio...if you do, leave your social life somewhere else.

I agree. You can check the stats on Cali dental schools...majority...and I mean by a lot go to a UC.

The only state school I would recommend on your list is Cal Poly San Luis. I know a lot of dentists who graduated from there and they are an elite program, almost on the level with UC's (above some UC's in my book).

Edit: Also at a UC you have more wiggle room for error. A 3.3 at a UC is much more highly regarded than a 3.3 from a state.

for 3.3 at UC school u can get a 3.7-3.8 for about equivalent work at CSU school, with about same effort.

San Diego State is the reason I got into dental school. Hands down the best Pre-Dental Program in the state; maybe the country and dental schools know about it. SDSU also has the largest Bio department in the state. Reading the other posts on here about a UC 3.3 being SDSU 3.7 ....although way off, even so I'd take a 3.7 out of a state school every time! not to mention the $12,000 a year extra you'd pay to go to a UC. Forget that! A the truth is that people are paying that much for a degree that you could get for a fraction of the cost. SDSU also has the hottest girls 4sure! haha it's a no brainer.

I've attended both UCSD and CSULA schools and unless you are driven and fully focused, the competition at UC will be really rough especially in the biology department. Another huge difference I noticed was the class size at UC vs. CSU is huge. I have not had a bio/chem course that had over 60 people in it at CSULA. The professors recognize your face, know your name, and for the most part more accessible. The tuition for CSU vs. UC is not really that dfiferent, just a few thousand more.

Look into the schools to see if there are any programs that you can apply to that 1) combine your bachelor's degree and DDS to shave some time off or 2) have a program where you can apply to their dental school out of high school and you're accepted if you maintain a certain GPA at their undergrad.

For example, one of my friends did something along the lines of option 2, he still had to finish undergrad and go through the motions of applying to dental school at the end of his junior year but he was already in unless he screwed up. He had to keep a 3.5 or something. (For the record this was some sort of program at University of Michigan - so he went to their undergrad and their dental school). Check to see if any Cali schools offer something similar - it could save a lot of future stress and you seem to know this is what you want to do with your life/career.

I've seen a lot of UCI grads at all of my interviews. I would reccommend going there. or any UC really.
