What do you think of NYU?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Personally, I do like here. Very strong clinically. You will know when you graduate and work in hospital.

It's dental school. You have to deal with the BS and the "ivory tower" that is our administration but you get a good education. 100% pass rate on the part 1 boards, highest NERB pass rate in the region, and all the patients you can handle. I've done a six-unit bridge, veneers, invisalign, overdentures, implant restorations (my friend in honors implants gets to place some this spring semester), plenty of C&B, restoration of VDO, surgical extractions, etc etc. There are plenty of outreaches, and honors/elective opportunities to hone your skills. We have tons of faculty so you get to learn different ways of doing things, plus we're a research powerhouse so you can get involved in the cutting edge of anything you want. If you want to specialize we have some of the best programs around -- perio, pros, OS are all very top PG programs.

All that said, it's an expensive school. Come here if you can (or want to be in NYC), but a cheaper option is usually best. PM if you have any questions.

To All the current students or prospect students what they think of NYU?

I am only a d1 so my experience is pretty limited..but thus far it is TOUGH. I always heard people say dental school (in general) is tough, but I dont think I really understood at the time what they meant. Today for example my schedule is class 8 am to 5pm with a one hour break from 1-2 for lunch. But the day doesnt end then, I still have to go to the library and study for a few hours since I have an exam friday, exam monday, and quiz tuesday. Not to mention I just had an exam two days ago, as well as a quiz two days ago. I am sure that other dental schools are also difficult, but it seems that NYU knows what they are doing as far as getting you prepared for the most important thing--passing the boards. As someone said earlier, the passing rate of the previous class was 100%, and its not like 10 people took it....211/211 passed. So yes thus far it feels like a prison sentence, but the light at the end of the tunnel keeps me going... with all that being said for the most part the faculty is great and it is nice that all lectures are video recorded so when you cant stand waking up at 7 am to go to biochem at 8, you can always skip it and watch it later...

Which is what 98% of the class will do once they figure everything out. No joke, my grades went up considerably once I stopped going to class. Those long days of sitting in an uncomfortable lecture hall for 8+ hours really wear on you, and being able to get the same information from the comfort of your own home (not to mention the ability to pause, rewind, and speed up playback) really makes a difference in your retention.

D1 really isn't that bad. Neither is D2 for that matter. Sure school can suck, but it's never been the living hell that so many people make it out to be.

Do you know if the medical students have their lectures video recorded too? Or is this only for the Dental students?
