What do your user name and avatar mean?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My username gives it all away--

I'm girl who loves taking photographs. I'm an amateur. I fantasize about one day traveling the world, with camera in hand--- just taking pictures.

The 07 stands for my graduaton year (2007--yay---almost there)!

Avatar- the most beautiful, elegant, mesmerizing Alicia Keyes (some people say I sing like her *not*) She is simply beautiful

My user name: We're all in search of something. It becomes "The Great Hunt" to us.

My avatar symbolizes me, I guess. Ironman is an inventor/genius, and he's super strong. I aspire to become just like that(I guess I just need to invite things now :D)

My avatar is what I dream about every hour on the hour...;)

brownian motion...you should know this from your physiology class on what this is...it won Einstein his nobel

my avator is a funny pic, plus prolly the only pic i found that fit within the 100x100 pixel dimension allowed by SDN, all the other pics i tried were too big...

Name: durfen - a german word meaning 'may/are permitted to' as in 'you may do something'. Chosen looong time ago (circa '96) when learning German.
Avatar - Ganesha (Pulayar) for good luck this cycle.

Avatar used to be - Guild Navigator from the movie Dune (the old one)
'I see plans within plans' - quote from said Navigator
Katain - location of said navigator that said said quote

I've been wondering this about quite a few people, so let's start a thread to find out.

I'll go first. My user name is obviously from the Simpsons....that episode where Bart joins a boy band, the Party Posse. No relation to medicine. And no avatar yet, although if anyone has good suggestions...

i like this thread

the ickey shuffle is the dance that Ickey Woods used to do when he would score a touchdown for the bengals back in the late eighties-early nineties. the avatar is obviously related  :D

this is a sweet thread! My name is a tribute to all those who are condident enough to tell people that they want "business in the front but party in the back" through the world's greatest hair style. The avatar is simply a man who is very comfortable with his beautiful haircut.

I train hard and I live fast. I'm the one Papa didn't want you to know about. I'm from the South part of the village originally but Papa put me in charge of his Smurfem (our version of the seraglio) when I was only 59. That's where the smurflings come from. The smurfem's set apart from the village (which is located in the Weinerwald, for those unfamiliar) about a day's journey for a smurf. I looked after the ladies (Smurfette and Sassette were Garagmellian creations, not real Smurf women like the one depicted in my avatar) until I hit puberty. At that point, in the early aughts, Papa sent me to train with the US Army Rangers. When I came back, Papa was on his death bed thanks to a bit of arsenic (we thought it was cholera at first, but a little toxicology proved that arsenicosis was the culprit). Naturally, we suspected Gargamel. Before Papa died, I organized a small elite squad (including Nat, Handy, Minor and Farmer) to take out the G-man and his cat. We called the operation DS Pantheon and successfully neutralized our two highest value targets with a combination smurfigenuity and M249. When we returned to the village, Papa made his last request that I take over the Smurfem full-time in the capacity of stud and I've been there ever since.

Also, because of my exploits, I'm the namesake of the so-called 'smurf attack.'

mine's also easy. i really am crazy about formula one racing.

....and i cant remember what my avatar is. it's probably just something i thought was cute!

my bf was wearing their tee-shirt the other day...

My username is a common Turkish phrase, which is a term of endearment used to describe a girl with dark hair and dark eyes. kara = dark/black, kiz = girl.

My avatar is Zorak from Space Ghost. This reflects my love of Adult Swim.

porcelain-IMO, best album by one of my fav bands Sparta.

My name refers to the spin of a tennis ball :)love: tennis), and the # is year I was born (I'm halfway to 30 :D )

and my avatar is a tribute to one of the best british exports: James Bond

I'm really enjoying these interesting tidbits about all of you. Keep 'em coming! :p

after graduating last year, i went around all the dorms at my school and picked up kitchenware (and other things) that people left behind. Many leave behind mini-fridges, some even leave behind TVs. I'm cheap, what can I say. :D

My S/N refers to a line from a poem by one of my most favorite poets of all time: Hafiz. I was reading a collection by Hafiz (Daniel Ladinsky translation) one day and decided that I'd flip through the book and what ever poem I landed on, I'd choose a name from that poem. It stuck with me ever since.

Now your name I've been wondering about for a while now. Glad you posted! :p

When you type my name in MS Word, the spell checker likes to suggest replacing it with "oxeye". My older sister started calling me that and it stuck (this was back in 1996, hehe).

Oxeye is a type of daisy, hence the daisies that are usually in my avatar. Right now it's an Easter daisy theme.

Also, my oldest daughter's middle name is Daisy and that was my grandmother's name - so I think that's pretty cool.

Apples are my favorite! Actually, pink lady is my favorite, but I thought that choosing that particular sn might evoke John Travolta instead of yummy cripsy tart fruity goodness.

And, you know what they say: an apple a day.... har har!

nick: I was on mIRC back in 1999 or so and didn't want to go under my usual nick. So I changed it to the first thing that came to mind, and degoo_ is what came up. The funny thing is I was actually trying to put in a certain word, I forgot what it was now, but I misspelled it and degoo_ came up, and I just kept it.

avatar: Scene from "The Seventh Seal" where Antonius Block (knight) plays chess with death for his life.

So one day my friends started making fun of me because I am a huge alabama fan and was going nuts because alabama had just killed florida (in 2005, ended up being a disapointing season) and I kept yelling roll tide while in the sports bar. Then the next day I was going nuts because I am also a Redskins fan and they were beating whoever they were playing (which is a rare occurance, I know) and so they started saying roll skins instead of roll tide and now I use if for all my usernames (mostly because I can't think of anything else and it is never taken and putting MD or Dr in my name seems a little presumptuious)

My avatar is a picture of my dog.

I used to get bad migraine headaches. I took Depakote for Migraine prophylaxis all through high school. I got to college and was in a fraternity with a bunch of med students... they were kind enough to inform me that Depakote is also one of the most commonly prescribed psychiatric medications on the market, used to treat bi-polar disorder (also seizures). It became a bit of a running joke after that. Depakote was my Greek Week nickname and when it came time for a forum nickname, it was the natural choice.

As for the Avatar... I made that myself. I'm a huge Grateful Dead fan and I like to mess around with Photoshop. I decided to merge the Grateful Dead "Steal Your Face" logo with a Surgeon... don't ask me for any deeper symbolism, but I thought it turned out nice.

My user name is my favorite character on any TV show.

I love samosas too :) I can't disclose what my user name means ;) but my avatar is a picture of my puppy-he's 9 months old. I also have a cat and as soon as I can get a picture of the two of them together, that will become my avatar...

My user name is simply from years of being a clash fanatic, and now its just easier to automatically input that into a registration than remember 600 other user names. It also represents how I want to feel, and in that manner its fitting.

My avatar is self explanatory.

oh yea i forgot my avatar. it means nothing but to display how hot asian girls are.

(before i had a pic of 300, which is the most awesomest movie in the whole freaking world)

Because I want to get to med school bad! And because I signed up for SDN and didnt think Ide actually stick around....little did I know this place sucks you in.

I was on depakote for seizures when I was younger and wouldn't wish it on anyone unless there are no other options. I shadowed an epilepsy specialist and he was saying now a days medications like dilantin are the preferred choice unless depakote is the only thing working. That medication really has some really terrible side effects.

hahaha as hard as this is going to be to believe considering my post count, I was the same way back in 2004 when I first joined this forum. I never thought I'd stick around. I guess I'm addicted to chatting. :p

my neurologist wanted me to try inderal for my migraine headaches. I was getting ~1/week. After I got an acceptance to medical school, they decreased significantly in frequency (at least so far) so there's no need for prophylactic meds at this point :D

look up the se profile of dilantin and it is much worse...plus there is some evidence that overall brain volume is decreased with long-term dilantin use..scary stuff! the epileptologists usually try to stop dilantin and start one of the third gen. AEDs now...

Hmmm I'll have to look it up in the PDR that I own. Yeah I own a physicans desk reference but its only because the computer lab where I'm typing this up from had 2 old versions that people left behind and haven't claimed in a few years. So I made it mine along with the free textbook of pediatrics they left behind. Surprisingly the PDR has come in use a few times this past year.

I'll have to look at that stuff again. Actually there was one patient who came in and his father was also epileptic and the father had been on dilantin for nearly 28 years without having had a seizure in 28 years. I don't understand why he'd not look into getting off the meds. The epileptologist thought the same thing to and mentioned such to his resident who was working with him at the time.

There were a couple of other medications that I think he mentioned. Something like trileptol or something like that. I don't know if that name sounds familiar. Don't remember now bc it was last year that I spent time observing him.

el aye = L-I = liquid-ice = name I came up with in like fifth grade or so and used it for some games. People called me "l-i" and I decided to change my name to the phonetic spelling of what I was being called. It also avoids being called "water."

I like pie. That is all.

nickname & 7 2 offsuit is the worst hand in poker

ya right, i got that hand 3 times... i folded teh 1st to times, preflop, but the 3rd time i'm like fawk it i call and i flop a 2 pair, turn'd a full house and won a nice pot :)

so no, no hand is "the worst hand" cause its ALL about luck and what you flop out.

you can have pocket aces, flop comes a 5,9,5 and someone that went in with a 2,5 wins.

ALLLLLLLL about luck and what u flop.

as for my name, pretty self explanitory.

The name, well you know, "Once a Marine..." I also figured that motto has lifelong relevance.

Current avatar is me standing guard one lovely 2003 evening in Iraq.

So in the spirit of this thread I'll bite and join in.

My name is indicative of the part of India I'm from: gujarat and my goal of becoming a doc.

Very unoriginal but I couldn't think of anything better at the time 4 years ago and have not changed it since.

Mine is from Super Troopers. It's a suggested nickname for a squad car. I chose it because, well, because I'm somewhat unoriginal and find it easier to reference others' funny moments than to make my own.

Yeah, it really didn't work for my migraines that well and I can echo what you said about the side effects. I was so happy when they took me off and put me on a new medicine that really worked on the migraines and had a lot fewer side effects.
