What does it feel like not studying on a sunday?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Because I will never have that feeling for awhile :lame:

Mmmmm. Alright I guess. But I'm still doing "homework" i.e. secondaries so not 100% nothing.

These questions are difficult for me. I'm kind of just blanking on all of them. And there's a ton to do.

I didn't know you were applying this cycle! gl

Yeah made the decision last minute. Submitted in beginning of Oct. Totes biting my nails.

Where are you going?
Submitted AACOMAS 5 days ago. How long did it take you to get verified? If you submitted the DO primary, that is.

Ah see that's just it. Haven't submitted AACOMAS yet. I've been waiting and waiting on my MCAT to get in, but haven't checked in like a week so I'll be doing that now. If it's in, I'm submitting now.

Is there still time to do this? How hard is it to pull together an AACOMAS once you've finished AMCAS?

I'm only applying DO, so IDK as to your second question. It took me a few days to write up everything for AACOMAS (had my experiences descriptions looked at by my UG's writing center), except PS, LORs and transcript entry, the latter of which is being done by their service as we speak. It takes a few businesses days for them to receive transcripts from your schools and since AACOMAS allows fewer characters for your PS, you may have to revise the one you used for AMCAS. You will also need to have your letter writers submit to AACOMAS or upload from Interfolio. If you started now, I'd predict you'd submit between 10 days and a month. You'd likely be late, although if you have good stats, getting an app in by a few days won't be too big a deal, as I understand.

Dude it's all the same crap. EC descriptions and PS are the hardest, but you've got that predominately done. Only problem is you have 3 EC descrips max on amcas, whereas in aacomas you have to do it for all EC's. Still not a big deal though considering it's like 150-200 words or something (750 chars?). Nbd you'll get it done in no time. Then scripts take like a couple hours or something. Make sure you get all the officials sent in from your school. And send your mcat NOW (on the aamc site where you see the scores) because it will likely take a bit. I think you can technically submit in the mean time, but I just personally wanted to wait. Also get LORs sent in at your earliest convenience. Hopefully you've got a DO rec.

Sadly, no DO rec. Not worth it then? Is it that much of a dealbreaker?

Ehhh it's optional at some, so if your other stats/ECs are really on par I don't think it'd be the end of the world. If you kind of figure (like I do) that MD is way more of a crapshoot then it's worth a shot. There's an info book of all the schools. Ctrl+F "recommendation" to look at all the individual requirements. There are many that require two science profs with an optional doc letter.

Never studied on Sunday first two years. I occasionally study/ied Sunday the week before the shelf third year.

All about that Sunday Funday. Everyone is different.

You will, don't worry. I'm in medical school and I haven't studied since Thursday. It's pretty nice. There will usually be at least one day each week where I won't study at all (usually more like 2, maybe 3 unless we have an upcoming exam).

What how is this possible?! I thought all med students spend on average 6-8 hours studying outside of class every day....that's what I thought most people on SDN seemed to say anyway.

Good thing SDN isn't the real world. Not even close

I never studied on Sunday in UG. At some point time off to relax/play sports/sleep actually benefits you more than killing it on the textbooks

It feel awkward. It's like there is something else I should be doing with my time.

Seriously though everyone has a different study styles. Try taking Sundays off and studying a half hour to an hour more each day. It's important that you find a way that works for you without burning you out.

It depends on the school. AZCOM (and I think CCOM) only require a physician letter, but "strongly recommend DO." There are others that place less emphasis on it than that. You can get a good list of schools together that don't require it. If your goal is to get in this cycle, I think its worth it to submit ACOMAS asap and apply to 5 or so schools that don't require the do letter. The app shouldn't take long, especially if your PS is already short enough (I used the same one for MD and DO).

Thank you for beating the packers :highfive:

Friday and Saturdays were usually the blow off days in my UG. Sunday come even 10 am the library would be beyond packed and the same people you saw at a table at 1030 am would still be there 1030 pm. Cram city on Sunday like no other back at my UG

Initially, I felt an overwhelming need to do something, however now I look forward to a day of mindlessly (and sometimes impulsively) doing whatever I feel like. Sometimes it's cleaning, other times watching random television shows, or just traveling to other cities to walk around. Feels good for sure.

While it's not always Sunday, I tend to take one day off a week (or more if possible). Typically, I prefer not to do anything of substance on Fridays and take more than half a day off on Sundays. I think the first year in medschool I worked a lot more, but got a less less back, I wasn't every efficient.
