1/31/11 11:59PM was the deadline for programs to submit quota. What does this "Quota" mean??

Does it mean that if program pre-matched any positions prior to 1/31/11 11:59PM, they can put the positions available for the match for NRMP applicants to see?

Please explain the quota thing.

It's just referring to the # of available spots at the moment. Some programs have been filling them with prematches or whatnot, up until today.

The quota is the number of spots they are putting in the Match. It is the number of approved/funded spots the program has minus any spots they pre-matched.

Is there anyway to see what the quota is for this year?

I'm pretty sure the quota is what is listed when you search for the program in the directory on NRMP. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong since I'm totally assuming here.

So...

Programs have the option to pre-match. Lets say a program has 10 spots. They interview X number of people, and decide they would like to pre-match some of them. If they pre-matched 5 people then they would only have 5 more spots left to put into the match (NRMP). All programs that want to participate in the match (NRMP) must state how many spots they will be putting into the match by Jan 31. If you look today (it is after Jan 31) the quota will be locked in. (before Jan 31 they could change it depending on how many pre-matches extended and accepted or if they did not like the people who interviewed and want to leave some spots open for scramble--not likely ) This is the NRMP which is entirely separate than ERAS. I think this is where the confusion comes from. Think of it like ERAS is an internet dating site, and NRMP is a place where you can get married.

Hope I helped.

sorry one last thing. To see how many spots a program is putting into the match-- log into NRMP, go to my rank list, go pick a program to rank, when you search for the program it will list quota with a # by it. That is how many spots the program is putting into the match. FYI if a program does not show up they are not putting any spots into the match.

Does the quota actually tell you anything about the program itself? I ask because I recently liked a program that takes mostly IMG and I am a allopathic graduate and I logged in to do my ROL and saw that the majority of their spots (75%) had already been filled.

I would assume that this means a lot of IMG want to go their and that most of their prematch offers were accepted translating to a solid program.

To Trypsinogen, not only IMG, but any independent applicant (previous US med school graduates prior to 2011) can do pre-match too. I have the similar situation. I really like a program but only 2 NRMP spots left (out of 6). I will rank it but my chance is much lowered 🙁
