Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, with some residence halls on the south end of campus located in Cleveland Heights. It was formed in 1967 by the federation of Case Institute of Technology (founded in 1880 by philanthropist Leonard Case Jr.) and Western Reserve University (founded in 1826 as the Western Reserve College in the area that was once the Connecticut Western Reserve). The university offers programs of study in Arts and Sciences, Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Management, Medicine, Nursing, and Social Sciences.

Early settlers called the territory "New Connecticut," but that name was later discarded in favor of "Western Reserve." Western Reserve College (founded 1826 in Hudson), which merged with the Case Institute of Technology (founded 1880) in 1967 to form Case Western Reserve University, is an example of that tie to the past. (The Hudson campus became home to the preparatory school, Western Reserve Academy.) The Western Reserve Historical Society works to preserve history and historical items relevant to the area.

yeah, in colonial times, Connecticut owned a good chunk of Ohio. Connecticut gave up most of its claims to the federal government so that the Northwest Territory could be created. However, it "reserved" the northeast corner of the territory for itself. This area came to be known as the Connecticut Western Reserve. So ultimately things located in that portion of Ohio were technically part of Connecticut's "western reserve". Given this I think folks in CT should argue that Case and Lerner should give them in state preference.

Really? I thought it was a very good school? Do you mean its a back-up if you're applying schools like Harvard and JHU?

Yeah, and CWR's name is one of the few remaining remnants of the region's connecticut era. I also remember reading somewhere that even today, some of the local governments in the region are modeled more after those of connecticut than the rest of ohio.

That wouldn't be very fair, considering that even Ohio residents don't get in state preference. I think that more of my classmates come from Canada than from Ohio!

It was a joke about the name. You need to turn up that BS meter a notch, notepreocupes.
