The AMA should send a letter of support to the striking physicians.

Funny things can happen in life. Given our exposure we might all happen to get sick in the same week.

Its odd how people always mention it is illegal for physicians to strike. It is totally hilarious, really. What is the government going to do if we do strike? Put us in jail? What then? The country is even more screwed if we are jailed.

I really think we should organize a nationwide strike demanding immunity from malpractice lawsuits, demanding the dissolution of medicare and medicaid, demanding the dissolution of RUCs, demanding the dissolution of STARK, get rid of HIPAA, allow physician owned hospitals, etc.

The country would have no choice but to die or meet our demands.

We only have a small window in which we can still do this and have an impact. The government is fostering the creation of ersatz doctor replacements in the form of NPs, DNPs, PAs, CRNAs, etc, to take this last remaining power we have away. Pretty soon they'd welcome a physician strike so they can replace us all the same day with noctors.

I point it out to drive home the point, to the few remaining naive souls, who think its just a big unfortunate accident that the health care system is collapsing and doctors are getting screwed in the process. It makes it even more painfully obvious how the government has systematically and methodically stacked the deck against us.

Unfortunately, too many docs still cling to the belief that we're viewed as "selfless healers" instead of greedy, walking lottery tickets, and this prevents them from considering anything that would shatter that precious mirage.

I couldn't agree with you more, I think we're just going to keep getting rolled over until we muster up the cajones to collectively agree to go "nuclear"

I think an effective strike against Medicare is inevitable. After the cuts, who in their right mind will do a CESI for $57? Hesus Christo, we don't even need social media to organize.

The question is, who will go back to accepting Medicare after the govt caves and brings the current rates back? Maybe that's when the noctors will come in and save the day...

A few years ago, doctors in Serbia went on strike to get their pay raised to $500/month. They felt they should at least get 4X what the housekeeping staff was getting, rather than 2.5 - 3X. It worked.

Doctors in America are too disorganized, fearful and compassionate to abandon patients en mass. It'll never happen.

I have an attending that was training in Argentina when they had a strike. Sounded pretty wild.
