Hey everyone!

Sooo this is my second shot at applying to pt school, and I am dreading writing a thoughtful and moving essay to the question "what have you done to strengthen your application." I am worried because I haven't done anything really impressive. I have basically retaken classes to improve my gpa and volunteered a bit. My gpa has gone up, but aside from being a full time student and working I haven't had much time to do anything worth bragging over. Does anyone have any advice on making my boring year of classes and saving money sound impressive?

Desparately,

I would search for "re-applicant essay" on this site. There's a ton of great advice out there!

I added something about how I was able to revamp the way I study by retaking classes and how volunteering with different types of people helped me to relate to people of all backgrounds and improve my interpersonal skills.

Gotta try to look a little deeper and figure out what you learned and how you are personally better from this past year.

This essay is absolutely critical. We will be looking at these closely this year. Sometimes the best thing that a PT school can do to an applicant is pass them over. The reason I say that is because it tests the resolve of the applicant to become a physical therapist. If the applicant is strong, then they can communicate what they have done to improve their application. In some cases, the perseverance and discipline that they learned during that year really comes through and it makes them a better PT student. I encourage students who reapply to really do some soul searching and then write that essay.

If you are at a loss to find something to brag about, then communicate what you have learned personally about being passed over the first year in addition to taking the classes which were necessary steps in order to improve your application.

Best of luck!

Ok pressure is on 😉 Thank you for the advice!

Is this question meant to be written in essay format though? I know I just had my response read over by 2 doctors that have gone through this process. Mine was more of an answer to the question in paragraph form, other than a full blown essay. Thoughts?

Never mind, wrong handle.

Yes. That is fine as long as it communicates growth and learning.
