Is it possible to get a job working only 1 hour a week? Does locum tenens allow you to do that?

Here's my idea: I let someone else do all the work and, under the Stark regulations, just show-up at 4:30 PM on Friday afternoon to sign charts for an hour. How does that sound? Why should I have to work for my paycheck? I'll let some midlevel do everything and I'll just sign the chart. After all, I'm a physician and can do whatever I want. Midlevels will definitely go for this too, provided they get only (at best) half of what I make. They love to give anesthesia, after all, and they just need me to sign-off for them. That's fair, right?

Now, pay me a million dollars.

Hmm, 1 hr a week.

Equals 52 hours a year.

Million dollar salary / 52 = ~$20K per hour

Mr. Clemens, is that you? 😉

You don't even have to live in this country to do this, you can travel the world and electronically sign your charts from anywhere .

So I'm assuming this thread was created to parody my other thread:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=6134031#post6134031

Which was, in fact, a serious question. I'm doing a fellowship next year which allows me one day off a week to do whatever the hell I want, and I want to work and earn some money as well as keep my feet wet. So if anyone has any ideas on how I can get a job for one day a a week, let me know...

Ah, now in THAT context, your previous question makes sense. I think everyone was wondering why just one day a week.

Moonlight my man. The opportunities are there.

You bettah believe I'll be doing it.

Having been in contact with a few program directors around the country, it seems that a SIGNIFICANT portion of new grads are going with the LOCUM TENEMS route rather than signing with a group in a partnership track.

It does seem that AMC's IS going to be the wave of the future.....because LT work is essentially a form of AMC.

What is AMC?

What is AMC?

It is a national movie theater chain. They have many "stadium" type theaters and often have "mega" chains with sometimes 16 or 20 theaters. I think what MilMD is saying is that, in addition to your fellowship, you could "moonlight" at one of these movie theaters and make some extra cash.

I guess if we are being unhelpful to others I can jump on board.

AMC is the American Motors Company. Mitt Romney's father was President of the company when they made good cars. When he wasn't marching with MLK jr. That was back when they had the Nash and the Rambler.
In the 70's they were famous for making my all time favorite car which was properly named "THE GREMBLIN".

. They eventually went bankrupt as Americans decided that a respectable car was important.

It's my thread... and I'll cry if I want to.

Sweet ride, dude. But, no, sorry dude. AMC is actually the Air Mobility Command. The AMC is a division of the Air Force that is usually the first to respond in combat situations. Their mission is to provide rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America's armed forces. The command also plays a crucial role in providing humanitarian support at home and around the world. The men and women of AMC provide airlift and aerial refueling for all of America's armed forces.

I think this is really what MilMD was talking about seeing as he's ex-military and whatnot.

So I took some time and I did some research and I learned that AMC is actually bigger than that. You are right it is really what MilMD was talking about but it is way bigger.

AMC=ARMY MATERIEL COMMAND. Without it where would our army be?

This is AMC in action. Yes, very important!

Aw, come on, dude! That's what we have Halliburton for.

Clearly AMC stands for the American Mideast Conference, the home of the NAIA powerhouse Urbana Blue Knights.

It took me a minute and I had to connect the dots but you are absolutely right.
(1) AMC is the American Mideast Conference because of Urbana University.
(2) Because Urbana University was founded by Johnny Appleseed http://www.urbana.edu/aboutuu2.htm.
(3) Then I remember that an Apple a day keeps the doctor away.
(4) So AMC is responsible for keeping us doctors away from things.

Sorry I am so slow.
